Mangalore, May 1: The monthly grievance redressal for Dalits was held under the auspices of the Dakshina Kannada district police at the police guest house on Sunday April 30.

During the meeting, leaders of the dalit community demanded that the land allocated to families belonging to scheduled castes  and scheduled tribes by the deputy commissioner should be given to them without delay. They complained that several acres of land, allotted to dalits by the deputy commissioner, have been encroached by members of other communities, especially in the rural areas.

District legal authority member Gopal Kadumath urged the superintendent of police to convey the problem to the deputy commissioner while requesting him to provide clear information regarding the land allotted for dalits in the taluk.

When MCC health committee chairperson Appi asked information regarding the conditions of hostels run by social welfare department in the district,  DCE Manjunath Annigeri said the hostels are in good condition, according to the information and opinion of the inmates collected by the department. However, Appi said the hostels still lack basic infrastructure and urged the police to convey the problem to the DC.
