Tenders to Run Canteen Invited

Mangalore: Tenders have been invited from those interested to manage a canteen in the office premises of the deputy commissioner. The contract will be for three years. A demand draft of Rs 50,000 should be submitted as deposit along with the tender form to the deputy commissioner, before May 5.

Only vegetarian food is to be supplied at the canteen. Food must be served to employees of the deputy commissioner’s office and during meetings at the price fixed by the DC. Being a government property, no repair or renovation work shall be undertaken without the permission of the DC.

Valedictory of Fruit and Flower Show at Kadri Held

Mangalore: The valedictory of the fruits and flowers exhibition-2006 at Kadri park was held on Sunday April 30 here.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner Parshwanath urged the farmers in the region to explore new arenas so as to expand their income.

He revealed that the district administration plans to start an archive of orchids found in the Western Ghats and appealed the public to extend its support and co-operation to the venture.

Department of Horticulture in collaboration with Zilla Panchayat and Siri Horticulture Society organised the programme. Among those present was deputy director of horticulture Dr Nagaraj.

More Than Ten Injured in Serial Accidents at Kalladka

Mangalore: More than ten people were injured in a ghastly chain accident involving a jeep, a Scorpio, two autorickshaws and four bikes. 

The occasion was the wedding reception of the brother of one Ratnakar Shetty of Kalladka, attended by hundreds. On the way to Vittal, a jeep hit a Scorpio which was parked at the side of the road and then hit an autorikshaw and a bike standing close by, to stop at last 50 metres away.  

The person sitting in the autorikshaw, Santosh of Melkar Guddeyangadi, was severely injured. The rest of the injured, belonging to the surrounding areas of Melkar and Kalladka, are Santosh D Cunha, Manoj, Narayan, Lokesh, Praveen Fernandes and an eight-month old baby among others. They have been admitted to hospitals here and in Puttur.
