From Daijiworld's Goa correspondent reporting from Karwar

Karwar (Karnataka), May 2: A Grandmaster (GM), eleven International Masters (IMs) and 90 FIDE rated players are amongst 200 players taking part in the first Ranjit Patkar Memorial FIDE rating Chess Tournament that began here.

The tournament is organized by Bangalore-based United Karnataka Chess Association and is recognized by All India Chess Federation.

West Bengal's grandmaster Neelotpal Das (2514) along with other International Masters including P Konguvel (2403), Suvrajit Saha (2394), Roktim Bandhopadhyay (2383), Dinesh Kumar Sharma (2379), P D S Girinath (2350), Rahul Shetty (2350), Ravi Hegde (2327), Anup Deshmukh (2326), Atanu Lahiri (2317) and Neeraj Kumar Mishra (2316) are participating in the tournament.

Uttar Kannada MP Anant Kumar Hegde inaugurated the tournament at Karwar this morning in presence of All India Chess Federation vice-president Samir Salgaoncar.

The tournament would end on May 8.
