Mangalore, May 3: The sleuths of Anti Rowdy Squad lead by inspector Vinay Gaonkar have finally solved the robbery case of Bendur and have arrested 5 persons in this regard on Monday May 1 evening.

A couple riding a scooter were waylaid and robbed of Rs 83,000 in cash that included currency of various countries.

Anil Kumar and his wife Geeta were on their way back home after closing down their business concern at Lower Bendur on Thursday April 27 evening.  However, as they reached near St Theresa's school, a group of 5 unidentified persons who came on a Maruti car waylaid them and robbed of Rs 32, 500 cash, 1,525 UAE Dhirams, 400 Sterling Pounds and 120 USA Dollars after sprinkling chilli powder into their eyes.  A complaint was lodged in the Kadri police station on the same night.

In their complaint, the couple had stated the Maruti car number as KA-19-1977.  Based on this the Anti Rowdy Squad police stopped KA-20-1977 Maruti car at Pumpwell circle on Monday evening on suspicion.  When the persons in the car were investigated, the entire robbery case came to light.

The police then arrested Harish Poojary (32) of Katipalla, Abdul Khadar alias Abbu (34), a resident of Janata Colony near Suratkal, Imtiaz (24), Lokesh (27) and Hassainar (23) and recovered Rs 30,400, 1,525 UAE Dhirams, 120 USA Dollars, 400 Sterling Pounds, a calculator, 2 mobiles phones, 2 Maruti Omni cars and records.

During the investigation the accused revealed that one of the accused, Imtiaz was waiting for the couple near their shop.  So as soon as they closed their shop and started home, he informed four others who were waiting for the couple near St Theresa's school.

The Anti Rowdy Squad police need to be appreciated for their immediate action.  Though the victims had stated the car number as KA-19-1977 owing to the chilli powder in the eyes, the police stopped KA-20-1977 car and were able to nab the accused.

The Kadri police are investigating the case.
