Bantwal, May 3: The sensational murder case of Manchinkanda near Amai, Kade Shivalya ended in conviction on Tuesday May 2 with the accused given a lifer by the Fast Track Court here.
The prime accused Vinay Rai alias Uday Rai alias Yashwanth Rai alias Tammanna Rai (32), Ramesh M (28) and Ganesh Bhat (52) were sentenced to life and fined Rs 25,000 each for the murder, 2 year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and fine of Rs 15,000 each for robbery, one year RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 each for destroying witnesses and one year RI and a fine of Rs 10,000 each for the hatching the plot.
The accused had murdered Raghunath Bhandari, a resident of Manchinkanda, his house servants Rekha and Gopal Bhandari on February 14/15, 2005 night. After the murder they had fled with cash and ornaments from the house.
However, owing to the lack of witnesses and the fact that house was situated in a lonely place, police had not achieved any success in nabbing the accused. But once the case was handed over to the DCIB police led by inspector Tilakchandra, the case was solved with the arrest of the killers. Later Puttur ASI Subrahmaneshwar Rao had filed a charge sheet in the court after investigating the case.
The case was then handed over to the Fast Track Court which convicted the accused on Tuesday.
