May his soul rest in peace. The great person with the vision of helping poor. He made our south Canara region proud by introducing various brands of chocolate and in collaboration with Nestle, India. Campco is the first company in this canara region, which produces branded chocklate bars. May his company grow more with the international brands thus giving many people the jobs.

May his soul Rest in peace.
It is Varanasi Subraya Bhat who first mooted the idea of setting up a Cooperative Society to purchase Arecanut and Coco directly from farmers to git rid of the middlemen who were cheating the Farmers by manipulating the price. Most of the blood sucking middlemen were Gujaratis. It is mainly because of Subraya Bhat the farmers are getting the best rate for Arecanut what they are getting today. Otherwise Gujaratis would have monopolized the Arecanut market.
Earlier farmers had to bring their Arecanut to Mangalore Bundar Area by paying huge transport charges all the way from far off Puttur Vitla etc, and leave that stock in the godown of Middlemen for weeks together and after it is sold the middlemen used to cut 5% commission plus rent for his godown for 2-3 months and pay the remaining amount to the farmer. For this the farmer had to come to Mangalore dozens of times. But after Campco was set up they opened their collection centers all over interior areas of DK, Udupi, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada and also Kasargod and other districts of Kerala. This way farmers started getting good rate for Arecanut in their own doorstep, immediate payment, no transport expenses, no godown expenses, no hefty commission of middlemen.
All this credit goes to Varanasi Subraya Bhat.
