MANGALORE, May 4: Pramod Mahajan is remembered with affection in the district despite the fact that he made only one brief visit to Mangalore city as Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology to inaugurate the building of the Software Technology Parks of India in 2002. He had promised to make Mangalore a hub of the IT industry.

Mr. Mahajan's charismatic persona inspired many young leaders in the BJP. District BJP general secretary Vishveshwar Bhat Bangaradka remembers him as a motivating leader.

District BJP president Pratapsimha Nayak likened him to another L.K. Advani in the making.

For Surathkal MLA Krishna J. Palemar, his meeting with Pramod Mahajan was a rewarding experience.

Some of the presspersons covering the elections used to receive emails from Mr. Mahajan, which helped them add the party's perspective on the elections.

Among those who mourned the death of Mr. Mahajan were Sadananda Gowda, MP; district in-charge minister B. Nagaraja Shetty; district BJP spokesperson Monappa Bhandary; and N. Yogish Bhat, MLA.
