Sullia: Crossing tiger, hidden leopard fuel anxiety among locals

Sullia, Dec 31: The appearance of a tiger and a leopard in Kodapala and Hydangoor of Nellur Kemaraje area here has given rise to anxiety among the people here.

The forest department officials who were informed of the developments have come to the village and identified the footprints of the wild animals. 

A person named Kodapala Subrahmanya Prasad while riding his bike noticed a tiger jumping on to the road near his house and going towards the forest. 

Passengers of a service van plying to Markanje from Sullia saw a tiger crossing the road and going towards Hydangoor.

The passengers informed Hydangoor residents about the lurking danger. The forest officials came at night and burst firecrackers to scare away the animals.

A dog belonging to Bojappa Gowda of Hydangoor began fiercely at night, but when the family members came out to check, the dog was nowhere to be seen. It is assumed that it was taken away by the leopard.

Mairaje Ramachandra Bhat, a local claimed that he saw a leopard near Dasarabail school while driving in his jeep, adding to the anxiety among locals.
