Mangalore: Janardhan Poojary taunts Yeddyurappa on decision to return to BJP

Mangalore, Jan 1: Former union minister and Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Tuesday December 31 lashed out at former chief minister and KJP chief B S Yeddyurappa for deciding to return to the BJP after having severed his ties with the party last year.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here, Poojary said, "Yeddydurappa has said that he will come back to BJP. Even the BJP needs Yeddyurappa, else it will die in the state. But Yeddyurappa had once promised that he would not go back to the BJP at any cost till his last breath. What happened to that promise now?

"He used to say that the BJP had backstabbed him and his own people had cheated him, including the party high command. He and his family are corrupt and there is enough evidence to prove it, and it will be revealed in the coming days," he added.

Poojary also taunted former chief minister Jagadish Shettar and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Yeddyurappa’s imminent return to the party.

"Does Jagadish Shettar have any sense of shame? If Yeddyurappa is taken back into the party, what is moral message that BJP is giving to the people especially the youth? BJP had earlier said that there was no question of taking Yeddyurappa back, so what happened now?

"When Modi has been speaking against corruption why is he ready to take such a corrupt politician and his people back into the party? Where is the anti-corruption agenda of the BJP gone? Modi thinks the people of Karnataka are fools, but we are not. L K Advani was a leader who had fought against corruption and who did a lot for the development of BJP. But now he has been pushed to a corner and not even his photo is displayed in BJP programmes or in their office," he lashed out.

"In one of the major scams of the country, the 2G scam, it was claimed that there had been a loss of Rs 1,76,000 crore, but that is all false and no loss was incurred," he added.

He congratulated the Pejawar Swamiji for rejecting the palanquin setting an example to others. “He has indeed been a role model through these extreme steps and let others who are using palanquins too follow his footsteps,” said Poojary.

No ban on arecanut

On the confusion surrounding proposed ban on arecanut by the centre, he said, “There are rumours that arecanut will be banned as per Supreme Court orders and this has put farmers in a state of shock and fear. We have made it clear that there will be no ban on arecanut and the farmers need not worry about this. Poojary will not allow a ban till his last breath.”

“There are a few associations who have been carrying out protests against the ban on arecanut and thereby increasing fear among the farmers. This has indeed led to the fall in areca prices from 205 per kg to 198 per kg. Some have even decided to sell their areca yielding farms or land at cheap prices and in turn it is the farmers who are suffering,” he added.

“We have even written a letter to Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and others in this regard and have met Sonia Gandhi and discussed this issue with her. A PIL has been submitted on report supporting the ban and there will be a hearing in this regard from both the parties. Farmers need not worry as the lawyers arguing for them are also very good,” said Poojary.

“In the KPCC general body meeting, I took up this subject and urged all not to support the ban, and also to appoint a good, senior, and experienced lawyer to represent the state’s arecanut farmers. Responding to this, chief minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwar and G L Shankar have also promised to fight against the ban. The KPCC, in this meeting, has passed the resolution that there will be no ban on arecanut and it has been widely approved by all. The chief minister himself has met union health minister Gulam Nabi Azad and urged him not to impose the ban. The cabinet ministers from this region have also promised to fight against the ban. Ramanath Rai has stated that he will resign if the ban is implemented. Hence, the arecanut farmers need not worry or be afraid,” he said.

“Already the arecanut crop has been suffering from various crop diseases and this fear of ban is another aspect they are suffering from. Hence, the state governmnet must give its complete trust and support to the arecanut yielders.  Please do not carry out any protests with regard to the ban that will further instill fear among the farmers,” added Poojary.

Leaders Ibrahim Kodijal, Suresh Ballal, Mohammed Masood, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Mithun Rai, Arun Coelho, Harikrishna Bantwal, and T K Sudhir were present.

Sir, any press conferences on fixing the highway between Karnataka's two largest cities ? Any press conferences on what your plans are to improve coastal Karnataka's infrastructure, create jobs or plans to reduce inflation ? How about a press conference on how you plan to improve public health care or investment in education ? The citizens of this unfortunate state did not vote you folks into power so you can call the press at your whim. With each press conference you show the limitations of your intellect. Its such a shame that we'll have to bear you for another 4 years !

Just because he is Moily's son??

Harsha's father Veerappa Moily contested from Mangalore twice and lost both times...you think son is more Capable than father???

    I don't like Congress people
Because of their corruption...but this Janardhana Poojary is very few in Congress who is
    honest person....unlike Harsha's father...

I have only one thing against Poojary,,, he does not have control over his tongue otherwise he is anytime a better candidate than Kateel.

Poojary says 'There is no loss in 2G scam'! What a joke- he should at least read CAG's report & Swamy's submission to the Supreme court. The losses amount to more that what meets the eye! Subsequent damp squib auctions have demonstrated that MNC's are not at all bullish on Telecom now

While there was favoritism done during 2G spectrum allocation by the then Communication minister Raja, already he has gone to Jail for his mistakes. Harsher punishment should be given to all the people who have involved in this.

However CAG report that there was loss of few lakh crores of Rupees to the exchequer is utter nonsense. Government is not a private limited company to look only on profits but it has to consider the larger issue of how it is helping the people on whole. Today India is the one country where the tariffs for mobile phoning is lowest in the world. This was possible only because of government policy.

If the government has done auctions based on the CAG report then service providers could have taken the same money from the mobile users. No company will put money from their pockets and the charges would have been 3 to 4 times higher. Money CAG talking is with the people and the result is even a poor man can have the facility of mobile.

If we use the same logic of CAG, then we should stop all subsidies because it is a loss to the government. Statement of Mr. Poojary about 2G is true. Internet pracharaks have been spreading this story without properly understanding it completely.

‘Didn’t Poojary say just days after loosing the election that billavs back stabbed him by not voting for him ?. Does he think the whole of billavas doesn’t have the brain of their own unlike him? Quoting politicians of any party and thinking that they will stick to their stand is nothing but living in a fool’s paradise. By the way these repeated press conferences just on the of hat, he is not only projecting himself as a joker by his repeated rants but only helping the opposition becoming stronger. Most of the Commentators here including internet Sangh Pracharaks may not know the quality of Sri Janardahna Poojary. He is honest, non-corrupt, simple living and never misused his official position for personal benefits. Even when he was the minister in Union cabinet his children used to travel in public transport and never used official cars.

Once my close relative stayed in his house for a day when he visited Delhi. For dinner he was given only Ganji and dry fish chutney. It was told that the minister was taking such simple food almost every day. He never misused government funds and always followed Gandhian way of life.

I also feel that Mr. Poojary should avoid talking about people like Yedyurappa or PM nominee as they are nowhere near to Mr. Poojary in the quality of public life. Poojary always stands with the weaker sections and follows the simple way of life.

It is not important if Congress s him as Candidate from D.K. but he is still the only mass leader we have in our district.

    Dear Mr. Rajesh Shetty,

It is very unfortunate that you brought politics of communities. It you take the history of Mangalore, people never voted based on caste. Before Poojary represented Mangalore, KK Shetty. Shankar Alva, Poonacha Mallya were MPs and most of the communities including Billawas were voting for Congress.

This trend continued during Poojarys era. As Poojary was becoming politically stronger, insecurity feeling started within some communities as they wanted to be leaders all the time.

Poojary was helping weaker sections and in this process voice of the weaker sections could be heard. Naturally most of the Billawas got the fruit of this and became independent in their earnings. Mr. Poojary has helped all communities and the propaganda that he has only helped one community is to make him politically weaker and has no truth in it.

Mr. Rajesh Shetty, if Billawas and Bunts along with all other communities can work as one team then only we can bring development in Dakshina Kannada.

Innovative ideas and valuable resources are being dumped, hidden or wasted by the negligence and blindness of responsible personalities. If they are serious we can deal and easily solve our severe problems.
