Mangalore, May 5: "Jhelo", a Konkani monthly started by J S Alvares in 1956 has turned golden this year.  After J S Alvares cared for it in its infancy days, renowned Konkani writer, dynamic activist Austin D'Souza nurtured it with zest and zealous of a true Konkani buff. He did not disappoint either the readers or Alvares owing to his hard work 

However, once he willingly handed over the responsibility, famous Konkani litterateur, journalist Dophy Cascia not only kept it alive but also did everything possible to keep up good work started by Alvares and continued by Austin.  Despite several problems and lack of support, Dolphy did a commendable job, at times sacrificing his own time and wealth.  It was in his tender care and exuberance. 

But recently he handed over the baton to Francis Saldanha that is Panchu Bantwal to run Jhelo.  Now in the company of Panchu Bantwal, Jhelo has turned golden. 

A special programme was organized to mark the occasion.  The "Bhangrallo Sambhram" programme was organized at Sandesha Auditorium on Friday May 5 evening at 6.30.

Noted Konkani writer Edy Netto presided over the function.  Former editor of Jhelo Dolphy Cascia and Konkani writer Dr Edward L Nazareth were the chief guests on the occasion.  

Monica Alvares, wife of J S Alvares released the golden issue of Jhelo and wished all the best for the future.  While Panchu Bantwal welcomed the gathering, Geo D'Silva Agrar compered the programme.
