Kundapur/Hassan, Jan 2: Seven persons were killed and five others injured in a ghastly serial accident between three cars near Channarayapatna bypass in Hassan late evening on Wednesday January 1.

Four of the seven killed, including a child, were from a family from Gangolli, Kundapur.

The deceased have been identified as Gangolli residents Louis Pradeep Fernandes (30), his son Joshua (2), Pradeep's cousin Sonia (26) and Pradeep's sister-in-law Philomena who were in one car, and Tumkur residents Manju, Siddharaju and Ranga who were in another car.

Philomena who was critically injured succumbed late in the night.

Pradeep's wife Priya, car driver Vijay, all from Kundapur, were seriously injured. Santosh, Shankar and Prakash who were in the car plying from Tumkur also sustained serious injuries. All the injured were admitted to Hassan district hospital.

It is said that Pradeep, his wife Priya and their son Joshua, along with Sonia, and Priya's sister Philomena had come from Bangalore to their native Gangolli for Christmas. After attending midnight mass on New Year's eve, they had started for Bangalore early morning on January 1.

The accident took place near Gulagunda cross in Channarayapatna between an Indica, Honda City and Swift cars. It is said that four-laning work has been going on at the spot where the accident occured.

Pradeep was the son of Clifford and Genevive Fernandes, residents of Church Road, Gangolli. He has a brother and a sister. He was a computer engineer working in Bangalore. He was married to Priya and Joshua was their only child.

Philomena Lobo was the daughter of Solomon and Irene Lobo, residents of Gangolli. She was among three sisters and a brother. Philomena had done her MCA and was employed with Wipro in Bangalore.

Sonia Pinto was the daughter of Walter and Helen Pinto who are in Bangalore. She has an elder brother and was a lecturer at St Anthony's PU and Darshan College run by Capuchin Fathers in Bangalore.
