Beltangady, May 6: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, during his two-day visit to the district, said that the state government has set aside a sum of Rs 1,900 crore for education and development programmes for Dalits and backward classes through the Social Welfare Department. He assured that the government will make sincere efforts to contribute towards developing Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking after inaugurating the Kalpataru Nursing School building of Kalpataru Education Trust at Halekote here on Friday May 5, he informed that the Kittur Chennamma Scheme has been announced with the objective of ensuring education for girls in the rural areas. He lauded the private education institutions for imparting education in the rural areas and said that unlike in Bangalore where education is commercialised, here it is provided with genuine concern at low cost.

KVG Group of Educational Institutions president Kurunji Venkataramana Gowda inaugurated the Vani P U College and MP D C Sreekantappa inaugurated the student's hostel.

BJP president D V Sadananda Gowda, MLA K Prabhakar Bangera, Blasius M D'Souza, ZP president Mamata D S Gatti and TP president Volambra Narayan Gowda and others were the chief guests.
