Mangalore: Infant Jesus Shrine to celebrate annual feast on January 14

Mangalore, Jan 4: The annual feast of Infant Jesus will be celebrated on Tuesday January 14 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte.

This was announced by Fr Pius James D’Souza, superior of St Joseph’s Monastery at a press meet, in the presence of Fr Elias D’Souza, director of Infant Jesus Shrine, Fr Stephen Pereira, editor of 'Naman Ballok Jesu' Konkani monthly, and Elias Fernandes, Four Winds Mass Communication Services.

The annual feast will be celebrated with great solemnity and devotion. Dr Pius Thomas D’Souza, bishop of Ajmer will preside over the Festal Solemn Eucharist at 6 pm, concelebrated by Dr Archibald Gonsalves, provincial superior of the Carmelites and hundreds of priests and religious and devotees in thousands.

On the feast day there will be masses from 6 am to 12:30 pm and it will be followed by a special prayer service in Kannada at 1:30 pm.
On the occasion of the annual feast, a blood donation camp will be organized on Thursday January 9 from 9 am to 1 pm. U T Khadar, minister for health and family welfare will inaugurate the camp.

As a preparation to the fifth birth centenary of St Teresa of Avila, a Carmelite mystic, the theme chosen for the feast is “Prayer: the Core of Christian Life”. A special catechesis will be given to the devotees during the nine days of Novena and on the feast day.

As a spiritual preparation for the annual feast, nine days of Novena will be held from January 5 to January 13. During these days of Novena, Masses will be held at the following timings: 6 am, 7.30 am, 9 am, 10.30 am (all in Konkani), 5 pm (English), 6 pm (Konkani) and 7:15 (Kannada).

Free meals will be served to the devotees during the Novena days.

Infant Jesus Shrine every year donates a house to the poorest of the families irrespective of their caste and creed. This year the keys of the newly built house will be handed over to Ronald Lobo from Bantwal during the annual feast.

All the masses on the feast and the evening masses on the Novena days will be telecast live on V4 Namma Kudla Channel.
