Mangalore, Jan 4: Minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar on Saturday January 6 expressed concerns about the city becoming violent and stressed that there was an urgent need to take control of the situation.

Addressing a press meet at the circuit house here, Khadar said "Mangalore is becoming violent and we must take control of the situation quickly. Anti-social elements must be stopped. These criminals are not afraid of the police, and they feel that even if they get arrested, they will soon get bail. Going to jail and coming out has become usual for them."

Urging for stricter police action against anti-social elements, he said, "Police have to take strict action against them. There are lots of vacancies in the department and we must recruit the best of the best personnel. Police must respond to each and everyone's complaints. Police must not give any scope for such situations to arise."

Expressing concerns over the increasing number of youth indulging in anti-social activities, he said, "In schools and colleges the security guards are not trained, they are very old and they do not have discipline. Institutions must appoint a well-trained security personnel to guard the premises. Students who stay in hostels and paying guest accomodations are not being monitored. Their parents are busy in their own work.

"These students (indulging in anti-social acts) have taken control everywhere. They have planted seeds of trouble in all places. The police department must focuse on those people who require help," he said.

He suggested police commissioner R Hitendra, who was present at the meeting, to keep an eye on habitual offenders. "Students are addicted to drugs, alcohol and many such things. To stop this, the police department should start patrolling day and night. Each and every vehicle must be checked and in every institution, one or two police constables must be deployed on watch," he added.

Regarding the recent moral policing incident at Attavar and the infamous Deralakatte incident, U T Khadar said "The accused have been caught and they will not get bail by any chance. In all the junctions CCTV camera will be installed. Number of mufti and intelligence officers will be increased, and habitual offenders will not be spared. Institutions will be provided security between their campus and hostels."

During the press conference, representatives from various institutions like Father Muller, KMC, Yenepoya, Nitte and P A Engineering were present.

I think Mr Khadar is trying, and I wish him the best.
Everybody, the changes have to come from within.
It's time we change. It's time to change our thoughts, our beliefs, our society, our government, our world. If we cannot make a change, nothing is going to work long term most of the efforts, however genuine, will fade off over time.
We do not need political parties, leaders, government to tell us what is right and what is wrong - - deep inside we know what we need to do.

We are reaching a boiling-point. That is not good. Changes that come in after major riots/government reshuffles are just temporary - - WE NEED TO CHANGE

Mangalore is getting to be a commercial -unplanned- city like Bombay.
First and foremost to have law and order- bring the police under the military since the politicians use them like puppets...
in uniform but with no teeth...
Every govt official -inspector s- health-food - sanitary : should serve the nation and not look at the watch and work on mobile /laptop wasting their time...
Intelligence wings should be active and efficient to track down on Gangs- mafia- Hawala- smugglers- drug peddlers-women
    Trafficking- pimps-etc.
All antisocial elements have to be d as CRIMINALS .
and punishable to death sentence .
If the law take sits own course then the JANATHA should act .
and complete what they need to do..to live in a civilised world..

    Hon’ble Mr. Minister,
First of all please ensure that the police and law enforcing authorities do come under political pressure while doing their duty, and also see that they do not take sides or show leniency while dealing with criminals.

Please make one Toll Free Hotline for reporting all the illegal activities. Please protect and reward the people who give information which is real threat to the society. Create awareness between the students and youths to report any wrong doings so that we can build a clean south canara. Also same toll free number should be used for reporting all corrupt officials. There should be a reference number for each information and the informed must be able to trace the status later if required.

There should be somebody decisive. And the ministers in the current government are not decisive, they are sleeping and definitely the morale of the police is down. Police cannot work like that.

Mangalore once a peaceful place with peaceful coexistence between all communities. Then BJP came to power and started to exploit with the aid of extreme organisations to gain votes as a result of which others formed their own extreme parties. People were general sick of BJP and their corruption and voted congress in expecting a change. But it has not happened. Extreme outfits from both sides have grown and attacking innocent people. Ministers are having great time attending opening functions and attending social functions and dinners. Police have not done anything to stop theses hooligans. So what will a helpless common man can do?. Hope AAP party puts up candidates in Mangalore to get rid of both Congress and BJP.

We must salute Mr. U T Khader for his timely advise to the Police Department and as stressed by him the entire Police Department must wake up and swing into action and discharge their duties very diligently and put the culprits behind the bars and no bail should be granted at least for one year. It is really pathetic young lads are ruining their career by indulging into drugs/alcohol and immoral activities. The main cause is parents are not monitoring their children and many youths have become redundant in the society. Rightly Mr. U T Khadar has alerted the Police Department and the whole scenario will change once the strict law is in place. Thanks to Mr. U T Khadar for his great initiative.

I agree criminals to be checked, arrested and brought to justice but is the Hon.Minister saying that more people to be recruited & trained in police force? Checking all vehicles running on road will lead to a chaos. Aam Aadmi will have start from home much early to reach their place of work in time. Dear Hon.Minister, please reconsider to revise your statement and reissue.

Police protection & action is needed. Also, the religious leaders from all communities step forward to preach religious principles of peace, non-violence, harmony and love. All rallies and gathering instigating violence and promoting hatred against others should be stopped and if necessary, the organizers of such anti national rallies, gatherings, samaveshas should be punished. Great going Mr. U.T. Khader. God bless you.

    Mr. Khader,
Now its your Government and you should rather act than delivering your wishlist through press conferences. Please monitor the activities of KFD in South Canara failing to which all of us have to regret later. Its not an organisation of local levels indulged in petty thinks like Bajarang Dal or Sriram sene. Their acts are brutal displayed in Press reporter case in Vittal.

Ypu have been elected by people of Ullal without cast bias, as Mr. Lobo in Mangalore. As we cant expect from Mr. Lobo anything, our only hope is in you.

With your actions till now as a minister, you can very well be the LS candisate from Mangalore (only if Congress party is wise enough).

Mangalore is already notorious for its un-ending series incidents such as the pub, home stay attacks, rape and kidnapping cases. Which have tarnished its image both nationally and internationally? The situation in Mangalore is almost like a ticking bomb that can go off at the slightest provocation. Hence the authorities are supposed to be extra vigilant now. They have to take all necessary precautionary and preventive measures. They are supposed to remain alert to any happening that might lead to any rage or might create fear in the minds of people, especially the minorities. Therefore immediate and stern legal measures against evil forces that might disturb peace and harmony.
