Mangalore, Jan 5:
An attempt to break-in and loot the house of a home-alone woman was foiled in the wee hours of Sunday January 5. The incident occurred around 2.30 am at Alape, near Bajal here. The house is located adjacent to the road, close to Adarsha School.

The house belongs to Philomena Fernandes (57). However, on Saturday, her only daughter Zeena Fernandes (28) had come home from her in-laws' house with her two children

According to family sources, four unidentified men were trying to drill the window panel of the bedroom to get into the house. Disturbed by the noise of the drilling, Zeena's two children woke up and started crying. Zeena and Philomena too woke up to the sound and realized there was an attempt being made to break into the house.

Immediately, the women called up their relatives and neighbors over the phone and asked them to come to their house. They also called up the police. Realizing their game was up, the thieves fled from the scene.

By the time the relatives and the police reached the house, the thieves had escaped, said Reena to daijiworld.

A case has been registered in Mangalore rural police station.

Many outsiders are pouring into M'lore for taking up the construction of high-rise buildings. Could be one of those behind the crime.

Remember, the thief also is scared and loving his life as much as anyone of us. Hence, before planning to loot a house, he does lot of home works and makes a thorough study of the house in target, like the number of inmates, their retiring time etc. One more thing he would ensure a safe escape route is available in the event of being caught. Therefore, this could be a handiwork of someone who have best ideas about this house and its members.

Hope our Police team trace these thugs and punish.

There should be a provision by the police dept to do the patroling in the day and night round the clock for 24 hrs. They should segrate the area to patrol so that it covers up almost all the area.I know what is the outcome of this is shortage of manpower.
