It is sad to hear Our Beloved Alban Maestry is no more. He was a great help to me when i was the Editor of Voice of Bendur. he was a real MAESTRY to me in his vast knowledge, simple living but high thinking. Whenever i go for a help to my articles, speeches, talks he was very supportive even his very old age. I have never seen such a simple man, a great man of wisdom and vast knowledge. He was a role model and a true "MAESTRY" in my life. He will be remembered from our Bendur Parish, from our Society in the years to come. May his Noble Soul rest in peace and may GOD grant him REAL REWARD!!!

Deeply saddened to hear the news of passing away of my beloved mentor Alban Maesthry!

Professors are renowned for their absent mindedness, aloofness and other-worldliness! Contrary to this impression, (late) Prof. Alban Castelino, was a versatile genius well known in Mangalore and surrounding areas for his social, cultural and other amiable characteristics. He was an intellectualist, educationist, editor, literary writer, stage actor, play director, musician, choir-master and instrumentalist. All these talents and capabilities are harmoniously blended into one in the gentle personality of Prof. Alban Castelino, popularly called 'Alban Maesthry’.

Alban Maesthry had tenderness of a family person, astuteness of a teacher, refinement of a musician, and the liveliness of an actor. Though educated during the British Raj, he was a champion of Konkani language & music and a true follower of Konkani culture.

I was so fortunate to be born in his neighbourhood and to have a close-knit relationship with him since my childhood. He was very supportive of my music column Do..Re..Me..Fa.. and he is the one who grammatically corrected my first Award Winning Book "Do..Re..Me..Fa.. Volke Gronth - Poilo bhag".

Undoubtedly Alban Maesthy's demise is a great loss not only for his beloved family but for the entire Konkani world. But we all know that by living a saintly life on earth he has won eternal reward in heaven in the mighty presence of our living God for eternity.

Dear Aunty, Annette, Oscar, Noel, Denzil & the members of entire bereaved family please accept our heartfelt condolences. May the good Lord grant you all great strength to bear this irreparable loss! May the divine soul of our beloved Alban Maesthry rest in peace!

With utmost love and respect I would like to add that Prof.Alban Castelino was a true Son of Konkani and the service he has given to the Konkani language and literature is immeasurable. His absolute and original compilation of Vovio and Vers is his own toil and although many have tried a hand at plagiarising his work have failed miserably. This is for the record and I say so with authority as I am one of the present Editors of Amar Konkani, the prestigious bi-annual Konkani Research Journal published by the Konkani Institute of St.Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore. Sir Alban was one of the early editors (late VJP, late Fr.Herbert, Fr.Eugene Lobo) and when I took over the utive Directorship of the Konkani Institute and also the Editorship of Amar Konkani in 2007 frfom the late Prof.Bennett Pinto (Thanks to Rev.Fr.Swebert D'Silva) I deemed it an honor and blessing to have Prof.Castelino as my editorial Advisor. The love, cooperation and advice he had shown me even at his ripe age (he had difficulty even in holding a pen)is something I will never ever forget Sir. My Associate Shri Gopal Gowda will have no hesitation in agreeing with me fully.
Rest in Peace Sir Alban. We miss you dearly.

It is really shocking to note the passing of our dear Alban Mestry. Simple, Humble and down to earth person either teaching, Conducting Choir, or directing the plays. I have always seen him accepting responsibilities’ given to him with warm heart and love. His passion for fine arts and music was amazing even at the later years of life. I still remember in the recent times when I attend the wedding / funeral mass at Bendur church, with all humility he will invite you to join the choir. I feel blessed to have been associated with such a wonderful and gifted person. Definitely Musicians' and singers of the yester years will be missing him very much. Today all of us stand tall that we have contributed something to society/church thru this gifted person.
At this juncture I extend my heartfelt condolences to Aunty, Annette, Oscar, Noel and Denzil. May God give you the grace and strength to bear the loss of your dear departed. Utterly shocked and deeply saddened by Alban Meastry's sad demise. I have no words to express my greif. Being a singer, composer and musician, I have vigorously gained Heavenly learning during his long tenure being Choir Master in Bendure Parish.

Our truthful condolences to the bereaved Castelino family members. We assure our Heavenly prayers. Let us not forget that we are from one Eternal God and we are to God a day.

Through death God our only beloved Savior takes us to eternal life. When we are in this world, God wants us to love each other and all the things which He created. We should work sincerely and lead a good life through which we can prepare ourselves for our own death and thus we follow in the path of Jesus Christ who died for our sins.

Have mercy on the departed soul O Lord and grant him Eternal Peace, AMEN.

He was an excellent Physics Professor, very respectful, man of dignity and a very friendly - "down to earth" human being.
