Bangalore, May 8: Sachin Tendulkar on Monday denied reports that he had declared himself fit for the Test matches in the West Indies.

Speaking to the The Times of India Tendulkar refuted claims that he had confirmed his fitness for the tour to either the print or electronic media.

On Sunday agencies quoted Tendulkar, who was visiting a temple in Mangalore, as saying that he was fit for the West Indies tour.

Tendulkar also hoped that people do not take notice of what is shown or reported irresponsibly.

"It's totally unnecessary and stirs up controversies," Tendulkar said.

Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah has confirmed that Tendulkar's next fitness assesment is scheduled for May 10.

Tendulkar, who underwent a shoulder surgery last month, is currently doing physiotherapy exercises, but had not begun onfield training as yet.

The master blaster was on a visit to the Sri Kshetra temple in Karnataka and performed pooja with his wife Anjali and his brothers Ajith and Nitin.

Security's been stepped up in Bangalore following the cricketer's visit.
