Udupi, Jan 6: The cross-examination of witnesses in connection with the June 2013 gang-rape of a Manipal University student began in the disrict and sessions court here on Monday January 6.

The victim and her friend were supposed to appear in court, but as they have exams till February 5, the University appealed to the court to give them time. Accordingly, the court allowed them ample time and they did not attend the hearing on Monday.

The court cross-examined two of the witnesses, estate manager A Vittal and security guard at Manipal University Suresh.

Altogether, there are 108 witnesses in the case, and in the next one month, 65 of them are expected to be cross-examined.

Henceforth, five witnesses will be cross-examined every day, said public prosecutor T S Jithuri.

A student of Manipal University was kidnapped and gang-raped by three men in June 2013, following which the police arrested Yogish, Anand and Hariprasad after a week-long search. Harindra, brother of Hariprasad and Balanchandra, brother of Yogish were also arrested on charges of destroying evidence, but were later released on bail.

All rapers should be beaten by danda. No excuse at all, it is a disease spreading all areas. Police do not have power or guts. Nor any politician has come forward to give any idea to solve the problems. Mostly all politicians are useless guys, manku buddi guys. fat guys, brain does work properly. Beat all rapists, are they politicians cousins??? Not to spare anybody. Make them work hard in the fields, plogh, dig wells, digging roads, etc. Else the situation will not improve, no remedy. Let all people see them working. They should wear yellow T shirt with "rape guy" trademark.
