Puttur, May 9: Mangalore MP D V Sadanand Gowda has issued orders to Balavana Development Committee to re-open the swimming pool at Dr Shivram Karant Balavana here.

As reported earlier in these columns, the swimming pool was closed after a boy drowned in the pool in the last.  A section of people had warned to stage protest against the continuation of swimming pool.  Following this, the committee had closed the swimming pool.

However, MP Sadanand Gowda has ordered to re-open the swimming pool.  He has said that swimming pool has been specially designed to train swimmers for state level swimming competition.  "So it is not proper to close down the swimming pool all of a sudden.  This is clearly denying the children from getting trained for the competition.  So I urge the committee to re-open the swimming pool at the earliest."

He has also warned of strict action from the government against the committee if it fails to re-open the swimming pool.
