Mangalore, May 9: The government is facing tough times from college teachers as the Federation of University and College Teachers' Association in Karnataka (FUCTAK) has threatened to stage state-wide protest, dharnas and boycott of valuation of papers in case the government fails to fulfil its demands within a week. 

A press release from the Federation here stated that the Federation is against the move of the government to expend the salary of college teachers deputed to pre-university colleges through the Pre-University Board. They also demanded the payment of salaries to PU college teachers which has been pending since past two months.

As many as 1,061 college teachers were deputed to pre-university colleges following the bifurcation of pre-university education from collegiate education in 2001. At that time, the government had agreed that the salaries and service conditions of these teachers would be handled by the Department of Collegiate Education. Now the government has violated this agreement by proposing to disburse the salaries through the PU Board, they said.
