Karnataka to be power surplus by 2017: Siddaramaiah

Bangalore, Jan 8 (IANS):
With a slew of projects under implementation, Karnataka is set to become power surplus by 2017 from being energy-deficit over the years, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Wednesday.

"We have initiated several projects to generate about 18,000 megawatts through conventional and non-conventional sources across the state over the next five years. Though they are at various stages of implementation, once completed, we will be a power surplus state by 2017," Siddaramaiah said at a trade expo here.

Asserting that Karnataka was a pioneer in the power sector, the chief minister said hydel power was first generated in the state over a century ago when a hydro electric power generation station was set up in 1902 at Shivanasamudram near Maddur in Madya district, about 100 km from here.

"We have also initiated a series of reform measures in the distribution to reduce the aggregate technical and commercial losses, improve service delivery to end-users," Siddaramaiah said at the 11th International Exhibition of Electrical and Industrial Electronics Industry (Elecrama) trade fair.

Noting that Karnataka had built a vibrant industrial base over the decades, the chief minister said the state had emerged as a preferred investment destination in the knowledge-based and technology driven industries, including IT, telecom, biotech, aerospace, electronics, precision engineering, automobiles, food processing and garments.

"We offer several opportunities for investments by domestic and overseas firms besides abundant natural resources and human capital due to robust educational system," Siddaramaiah said.

Organised by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association, the five-day Elecrama at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on the city's outskirts will showcase "made-in-India" products to global audience.

About 1,000 exhibitors are participating in the trade expo, being held for the first time in Bangalore. The fair features products and technology through the voltage spectrum from 220 volts to 1,200 kilovolts.

By the year 2017, the demand from new industries too would increase. So we have to continuously increase our power production.

Siddu should give where all these power generation happening and what stage they are. You will find that most of the projects are started by the previous government. Specially when Shobha was a minister. That it was planned that we need to generate more power. You cannot do the project planning and financial closure in 7 months. Need 2-3 years.

CM SIDDU KNOW BETTER HE WILL NOT BE IN CM CHAIR UPTO 2017 AND SAY CONFIDENTLY AS 2017.
WHY 2017 NOW ALSO IF GOVT. DON'T SUPPLY FOR MANY REASONS ATLEAST FOR 12 TO 16 HOUR/DAY QUALITY POWER, STATE WILL HAVE SURPLUS.
WHAT CONGI'S COULD NOT DO IN 60YEAR RULE, BSY AS CM DID IT IN JUST 6MONTHS.

Power surplus in 2017 means there won't be any new developments in Industrial and domestic use.

CM Siddu is confident of remaining as a CM for the full term. Whereas, Congress says there might be some chance of change.

India can have surplus balance (instead of CAD) by drastically reducing the fuel consumption, if we use the huge dead weight on wheels as a pushing force (instead of carrying and moving it as a heavy burden, with expensive fuel, heavy costs and pollutions).
The Mobile Technology Revolution is for amazing benefits, why the Automobiles Sector is to suffer the severe problems, with a lengthy evolution?

Self sufficiency in the power supply for Karnataka is going to be the beginning of a new era for our home state. Consistency in power supply will bring consistency in all our plans and programs that relate to our way of life in India for hundreds of millions of people living under different life conditions and circumstances.

Sufficiency in the power supply should still dictate conservation so that our power costs do not rise and hurt our middle class and lower middle class people.

Consistency and sufficiency in power supply, if possible, should be privatized so that power providers render better service and better rates to the consumers.
Let the players remain competitive and let the consumers and customers get the ultimate benefit without being manipulative.

Power supply stability will boost manufacturing of products as well as services. Supply and demand will also display progress, and the daily life standards of people will also change with better amenities within the four walls of the house.

Make no mistake that when India makes a progress in life there will be an overall improvement in every citizen's life, and the entire nation moves forward. 1.2 billion people comprise every sixth person on this planet that deserve all the basic amenities in this world - why not?

Once again, CONSERVATION is the key from sunrise to sunset and beyond, and the power supply will continue to make a big difference in the basic life of everyone in India, whether you are young or old - rich or poor. The days of the kerosene lamps should come to an end. Progress must prevail where the power supply does make a signature contribution.

    People,

Most CONgressmen are capable of generating power from their mouth...no generators are required!!!

I want to know the breakdown of power generation and consumption during all CMs periods starting from 1947...

These people lie and think people will forget it.

Power should be generated and sold 10% more than manufacturing price...for this we need transmission losses 5% or less...we currently we have transmission losses of 40 % which is totally unacceptable....

What type of power development we can expect from a minister like DKS???
