Udupi, May 10: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), as part of its social commitment has introduced Manipal Arogya Card 2006 to provide quality healthcare at affordable cost to the members. Manipal Arogya Card provides them an ideal opportunity for people in this area to pay a small sum as membership fee and avail large benefits by way of in-patient and out-patient treatment in the Manipal Health Systems Network Hospitals. Manipal Arogya Card holder will receive his investment back as discounts from just two or three usage.  

Manipal Arogya Card holder can avail the benefit at the following Manipal Health Systems Network Hospitals: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, Shirdi Saia Baba Cancer Hospital, Manipal, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal and In Mangalore - KMC Hospital, Attavar, KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, and Manipal College of Dental Science, Hampankatta and Dr T M A Pai Hospital, Udupi and Dr T M A Pai Rotary Hospital, Karkala. The Manipal Uma Hospital, Kasargod will offer special rates and discounts for the card holders.

Dr H S Ballal, vice chancellor, MAHE said that free consultations with any specialist / super specialist doctor any number of times during the year is the most attractive among the out patient benefits. Free bed in general ward with no nursing charges, no attendant charges , etc for any number of times during the year, added Dr Ballal, is the most attractive among the in-patient benefits. 20% discount on diagnostics and laboratory Investigations give considerable relief to the patient. Low priced packages and evening clinics are the exceptions in this scheme

 According to Dr H S Ballal, the benefit of the scheme to the card holders includes:

 Outpatient Benefits:

  • Free consultation by specialists and super-specialists, any number of times during the year.
  • 20% concession on laboratory and X-ray charges.
  • 20% concession on CT Scan, MRI and Ultrasound charges.
  • 20% concession on dental treatment.
  • Rs 50/- concession on dialysis.

 In-patient Benefits (applicable only to General ward):

  • Free General Ward bed charges.
  • Free Operation charges.
  • Free Nursing charges
  • 35% concession on surgeons and anesthetists fees.
  • 20% concession on CT Scan, MRI and Ultrasound
  • 20% concession on nebuliser, ventilator and monitor charges.
  • 20% concession on the in-patient dental charges.
  • 20% concession on laboratory and X-ray charges.

 According to Dr Ballal, Manipal Arogya Card is a unique scheme where the discount on treatment can be availed on pre-existing diseases also. Manipal Arogya Card is priced at just Rs 200/- for an individual card and Rs 450/- for a family card. Family includes the card holder, spouse and children below 21 years of age (any number of children). An add-on card is also available for the parents of primary card holder under family card scheme for Rs 100/- per parent.

 Applications for the Scheme are available at all Manipal Health Systems Network Hospitals and Corporation bank branches in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, Davangere, Haveri, Chitradurga, Chikmaglur districts in Karnataka and Kannur and Kasargod districts in Kerala, till June 10. The card holder can avail of the benefits available under the Manipal Arogya Card Scheme for a period of one year from June 15, 2006 to 14 th June, 2007. A "Helpdesk" has been set-up at each participating hospital to provide more information about the Manipal Arogya Card Scheme. A 24 hour Helpline – 0820-2571967 has also been set-up to provide more information on the Scheme.
