Mangalore: Kannada movie on St Lawrence set for release on Jan 17

Mangalore, Jan 11: ‘Karkalada Pavada Purusha Santha Lawrence’, a Kannada movie based on the life history of Saint Lawrence has completed the process of editing and is set to be premeired on Sunday January 12. The film will be released across the state on January 17.

The costliest film ever produced by the Catholic community in India, it has scenes of the Roman empire shot in Bangalore Palace, dances by three dancers from Turkey, adoption of modern DTS technology, shooting by digital camera, use of horses, melodious seven songs and two songs by Rajesh Krishnan.

The film is being dubbed in Kannada, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and set to be released simultaneously in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Kerala.

Popular Kannada artistes including Bhavya, Rekhadas, Shobharaj, Swasthik, Shanker, Ravi Chetan, Tennis Krishna, Aravind Bolar and Dolla Mangalore have acted in it.

The film is produced by Walter Stephen Mendes of Western Institute of Technology, Mangalore and co-produced by Frank Fernandes, Rajesh Mendes, William Rebello, Alwyn D’ Souza and Jagadish Shetty.

It is directed by Praveen Thokkottu.  Story and editing is by Walter Stephen Mendes, Pravin Thokottu, Fr Mukthi Prakash and Fr Ronald D’ Souza.

The story of the film is about a catholic Hermit and four of his companions travelling with St Lawrence’s miracle statue from Goa to Karnataka via sea shore. As they reach Karvar on the way they try to install the statue in a hut, but they do not get suitable site.  They continue travelling and stop at Karkala’s Parappale ground to take rest.  However when they try to lift the statue to continue their travel, they find that the statue is stuck and could not be moved.  So they install the statue there and several miracles that took place after that are shown in the movie.

The profit earned by the film will be donated to Divine World Charitable Trust for their social service programmes.  The trust, which was started just a year ago has conducted more than forty free eye treatment camps, held more than 220 cataract operations and has distributed more than 4500 spectacles. It has distributed uniforms and books for more than 500 poor students and provided computers for six schools. The trust has requested for more financial aid to continue their work of social service.

The premier show of the film together with the first anniversary of Divine World TV will be held at the Cinepolis on January 12 at 6.30 pm and the film will be released all over the state on January 17.  The programme will be blessed by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese and presided by Dr Aloysius Paul D’ Souza, Bishop of Mangalore diocese.  It will be inaugurated by B Ramanath Rai, minister of forest and environment, government of Karnataka.

The artistes of the film will be felicitated by ministers Vinaya Kumar Sorake and Abhayachandra Jain.  The audio CD will be released by U T Khadar, minister of health and family welfare in the government of Karnataka.
