Mangalore, Jan 11: "The problems which existed in the city a year ago are still persisting and no one has take steps to resolve them," said deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said.

He was speaking at interactive meeting organized by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at the KCCI hall here on Saturday, January 11.

"I cannot compare Mysore city with Mangalore, because Mysore is developed and it is at the top, but if we look at Mangalore, it's problems are the same as 15 years ago," he said.

"People of Mangalore are concerned only about themselves. They are not worried about city. We require support and co-operation from the people to develop Mangalore," he added.

On the condition of Kadri Park, he lamented, "From last 65 years, the park has not been repaired and it is still under construction."

Regarding the proposed high speed rail link between Konaje and Manipal, he said, "The project will happen very soon. It will benefit more than 10,000 students who commute between the educational and IT hubs at Deralakatte and the city. It will connect Deralakatte to Udupi through Mangalore city, which will greatly help in reducing the traffic on this route and reduce the time for commuting, thus helping in the overall development of D K district, as eventually Mangalore and Udupi cities will merge due to their expansion."

"Roads in Mangalore are concreted but footpaths for pedestrains are not many, because Mangalore is developing and branded cars are being imported here, which require wide roads. We are working on this issue and very soon we will clear all the obstacles," he said.

Speaking on sports development in city, he said, "Athletes in Mangalore are reducing day by day in number, and if we look at international sports meets, we do not have a single person representinng our country from Mangalore. For this allocation of land and good equipment are the needs of the hour, which will give a tremendous boost to sports.

"The Nehru Maidan ground was used for playing football but now it is being used for other purposes like public and political rallies. This will be restricted very soon and we are working on it," he added.

"From past eight to nine months, vacant posts in police, judiciary and education department have not been filled up. We have set up a committee to make new appointments," he said.

KCCI president Mohammed Ameen submitted a memorandum to A B Ibrahim regarding various issues pertaining to the city. In response, Ibrahim said, "Decision on the Netravati river diversion project is for ministers to make. Large number of people must join hands and protest if they want the project to be dropped."

Mohammed Ameen welcomed the guest and felicitated the deputy commissioner on the occasion.

Nigam B Vasani, vice-president at KCCI and former KCCI presidents, Latha R Kini, Muralidhar Ramani, T Subbaya Shetty and others were present.

First of The Comparison of Cities is not Logical because the Topic mentioned here is Pertaining to the Existing problems in Mangalore. Let's stick to it instead of talking about other city. We need to integrate ourselves and support the local statutory body to cope up with development of mangalore city. We have seen a really bad situation of Mangalore city during rains due to horrible drainage system and bad roads. Let us highlight, escalate such issues to the local leaders so that it gets attended. If we start fighting that Mangalore is better than Mysore, we may win the argument but lose on city's current improper infrastructure. What is the priority"Argument or Action?"
Let's think and focus on our city, keeping & making our priorities straight.

Mysore is the 2nd largest city of Karnataka ,, it doesn't mean if Mangalore is having international airport it is well developed than mysore ,, the only thing why mysore doesn't have international airport is Bangalore is nearby to mysore ,, hence we don't need an international airport ,, Mysore is a peace city ,,,Mangalore doesn't even come 3rd ,,, 3rd is Hubli ,,,after that Mangalore.

Lol. big city may be in terms of population. When it comes to development it is always Mangalore in karnataka after Bangalore. Revenue generation, GDP, Standard of leaving etc. its always Mangalore.

fyi, Mysore looks like small town in front of Mangalore. In Mysore we feel town feeling, wherein Mangalore looks like small Metro city.

    Hope u understood....

Lol...Mysore is larger in terms of population may be. If development is considered it is always Mangalore in karnataka after Bangalore,Whether it is revenue generation, GDP or standard of living.More population doesnt mean more developed. Since Mysore is near to Bangalore, it is getting more hype.
FYI...Mysore looks like small town in front of Mangalore.I think u have not seen mangalore.
    hope u understood...

You are 100 % right DC. You have spoken true facts at least now someone admits that Mangaloreans are not bothered about developments.
Look at all the Public places like, Parks, library , Fish market, Central market Nehru Maidan, Kadri park, Mangala stadium , Taluk offices , Etc,,etc, Same as before for last 40 years I have seen in Mangalore no improvements . Only Concrete roads without footpath is the developments seen and builders building apartments and making fast money. People still have the habit on urinating openly and not bothered about anyone . Government and people are not following any norms of law . Its shameful to see that the educational hub of several private and government schools.colleges and university in filthy environment condition existing. Now a hope shown by DC. Good luck and welcome for developments in and around Mangalore.

Mangaloreans are selfish? you dont be selfish by starting up new business ventures for your selfishness. u feel others are selfish when they don't cooperate with you for ur personal growth? mangalore is still beautiful, rich and clean when you compare any other city in karnataka.

Mysore is a developed City. May be Maharajas have contributed to the Development of Mysore. Its really beautiful city with proper planning unlike Mangalore. Ministers, Mayors, MLAs, Dy. Commissioners and other District Officers come and go but they seldom think about the old problems as pointed out by the present DC. What our present DC has told is cent percent correct. Let him take some measures to develop and improve Mangalore. Let the Govt. keep the DC for a term of 5 years and let us see the progress.

I am staying in Kulshekar where for the last several years around 1 km bridge work is going on , the standard of work is very very low quality. By the same time I have witnessed in Riyadh around 100 fly over bridges completed in a international standard of quality work by mostly Indian workers.
Mangalore is also famous for footpath less roads.
Our present DC is honest and he wants to develop our city. Every citizen should support him.Yes, we have several problems, but our people are selfish and student union organization's come to the street only when their political leaders ask them during their election period for a silly reason.
Now Mangalore is famous for moral policing, cattle stealing, communal hatred speeches etc.

Our Kadri Park needs huge improvement through Public Private partnership to convert it into an international standard Park with good water body, joggers track, seating arrangements and green patches. The toy train should be of Disney World Standard running on elevated rail-line with tunnels and water falls on it the route and not such pathetic one as we have it.
There are no footpaths along many newly laid concrete roads and the sharp road edges are not filled that is very dangerous for younger children and the senior citizens.
Our Maidans and Stadiums are carelessly misused by the politicians and the religious organisations. These organisations deface the whole city with banners, flags and posters anywhere and everywhere and later they are not removed. Please stop use of banners by any organisations. Please stop throwing of used materials and spitting anywhere and everywhere. Please stop selling of Paan, Gutka and other chew-able eateries by the Gudna-angadis and shops including DRUGS.
Give special emphasis to MCC waste disposal mechanism and re-cycle of organic wastes. Encourage Bio-Energy and Solar Energy in every apartments and institutions. Encourage re-cycle of used water for watering plants etc.
Let us all co-operate and join hands with the Mangalore City Corporation to keep the city clean.

Everyone writes, but nobody wants to bell the cat.Ravi.Why oh why is everyone scared to give the name of the person (the selfish land owner) who has stopped the road expansion at the Collector's Gate.
Is it because there is political influence that goes right to the gate of the Congress President via a Raj Bhavan.
Come on, you scribes, name the name as the Court stay order has not put a gag on public information.

There was something similar right opposite the Church at Bondel by two selfish land owners, but it has long since been cleared but the road is not concreted.
Come on Mr DC, you must be for the aam aadmi and not for "some aadmi".

Please go through the e=complaints made to the MCC on bad roads that have not been attended to for 24 months- yes 24 months.I know of this case that even the previous DC had assured the complainant would be attended to in August 2013.

Mysore City is situated on a plain land. Hence it is easy to take up developmental work in Mysore. Whereas Mangalore City is situated on many Hills. So, preparing Technically feasible plan for development itself is a challenging one in Mangalore. Therefore, expenses in Mangalore are double that of Mysore.
Besides Mysore Citizens are cooperative in any Developmental project. Whereas in Mangalore vested interests are busy creating the legal hurdles right from the beginning for every developmental work. For example expansion of the Road at Collectors-gate, this small work is held up since last 5 years due to Court Stay order from a selfish house owner in Collectors-gate.

Straightforward and honest talk by a person at the helm of affairs. Does the political establishment have the guts and courage to support the person with a vision and dedication- Give him enough time to build institutions which have failed- do not transfer him

Essentially, he said Mangalorean's do not stand up for issues and are selfish- do some soul searching instead of fighting in the name of politics and religion.

Mangalore needs new solutions to old problems. In the development activity, e.g. building high buildings, the city's beauty has been destroyed forever. the nice tiled houses once existed, giving a distinct look to the city are no more. The green look of coconut palm trees are no more to say the least.
The city planners are no planners at all. There are no footpaths to walk for people. there are no proper bus stops. elderly people dare to walk in the city.
Pollution and vehicles have been destroying health of the masses.
Mangalore does not need more cars, wider roads or for that matter more skyscrapers. It needs better planners, environment friendly visionaries, business leaders who care for citizens' welfare, proper infrastructures, better water and sanitation facilities, and yes, nice and clean public toilets.

I totally agree with Denzil Fernandes. DC should ask students how they are treated in their schools and colleges. Most of the college / School does not support sports in DK / Udupi Dist. They are only bothered about the attendance of the student to secure 100% result. Yes the results are importance along with other activities. If any boy is good in sport, teachers should put little effort behind those students who are good in sports. I also request to appoint only professionals to take care of the dept. and they should be accountable for the same. Pls. treat them well and also take out of those people who sits in a chair only for the sake of position. There is plenty of talented students in both the dist. and there should not be any favourism. Importance should be given only to talent.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim commented that there are no sports persons from Mangalore representing the country. Who is to blame? Our city's elders should be blamed for this sorry state in our sports. We have plenty of talent all around the district and I can vouch for that. I have watched every sports activity in our district. There are so many talented athletes and sportsmen in the villages, but they go underground and vanish when they do not get any support. We have physical directors who are not interested to produce stars from their schools or colleges. May be there are a couple of exceptions. The physical directors have to do their job more than waiting for their salaries every month ! There should be a stiff rule for all the so called P.D.s to churn out at least a couple of champion teams and players year after year from their schools and colleges.
Take the physical directors to task ! Then, I promise you, D.K. will be on the national sports calendar.
Our own elders should take care of promising boys and girls and give them all the encouragement if they are in a position to do so. Forget everything else, catch 'em young and make them champions.

Denzil Mangalore , what you have stated is correct.
But, Cricket has killed all other games. Even in schools the so called physical Director or P.T. Teacher is just a " Drill Master " who himself does not know to play any game.
