Mangalore, Jan 12: The gas and ration consumers' forum held a unique protest near the DC office here on Saturday January 11 against the union government for increasing the cost of LPG cylinders.

Protestors prepared tea with firewood on the road to drive home their point. The tea was then distributed among the people present.

Addressing the protest, Aysha Mumtaz, organizing secretary of the forum said, “Along with assaults on women that are increasing day by day, this increase in LPG cylinder price has also given a big blow to women who cook. The union government is doing injustice to women by raising the price of basic needs like cooking gas.

"Former union minister Janardhan Poojary is raising his voice now, why did he remain silent earlier? Is this a tactic for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election?” she questioned. “If Janardhan Poojary is really concerned about the poor, let him join our fight.”

B M Vishnu Murthy said, “The price of LPG has been increased by Rs 11.60 per liter. Due to the government’s present foreign policy, the common man has to pay a heavy tax on LPG, petroleum, and diesel though it is cheaper in foreign countries. Moreover, the auto drivers are facing problem because of the increased price of fuel.”

On this occasion, Mohammed Siddik Jakribettu presented the keynote address and said that if the government failed to take a proper stand, in future they would hold severe protests.

Dharmendra K, president of gas and ration consumers' forum, Rekha Baliga, and Salim Bolangadi were present on the occasion.

These protesters have plenty of money to buy gold for themselves and hoard in their houses. But to pay money for LPG for cooking they make India shining protests.

If anybody compel them to give free chaai to the poor inhabitants contentiously day after day see one by one will run away from the protests.

Oman and other Gulf countries have abundant quantity of Gas. Indian govt. should work out a strategy how to receive the same and benefit.

    @ Anand, Karkala

Food cooked on firewood is surely delicious and on the second day it is so crispy & tasty, someone would be tempted to lick the fingers. I remember those old days !

Alternatively, as promised by our Honorable C.M.
There would be surplus electricity by 2017 and I hope part of the problems of the common man will be solved.

New mini Waste to Biogas plants might solve the problem along with Induction cook tops though require induction based vessels can prolong(single cylinder) gas consumption to 2 months, which only costs Rs 300/month.

Waw!, Like the way of protesting. Preparing a tea in the middle of the road is not a big thing. But if you notice a ' pink water bouquet' for safety, to control the fire that's the main thing. Work or protest doesn't matter. SAFETY FIRST.

As High court mentioned last week to a Petitioner, If Onion prices are high stop using it and you will find it in 15 kg per kilo.
So let all unite and stop or limit using gas and utilize other forms of fuel like cow dung or firewood, etc. for 1 months and you can see the impact.
But no one would do it. There is no unity in our countrymen.
All this Nataka for future elections.

The reason why cnn ibn, ndtv, times now, and all english channels are over the T-AAP is bcoz they know all AAP voters of delhi will vote for BJP and especially narendra modi for Lok Sabha elections..

Hence, they want to stop that public perception to help the congress.

pls understand, voting for AAP is akin to voting for congress and giving the power to congress.

be wise and vote for bjp bcoz only empowered BJP has the roadmap to progress , harmony and peace

Please don't use LPG and kerosene and use electricity ,solar, coal, waste in place of them.India is a poor country with very low per capita energy consumption .Scarce and costly energy is leading to stagflation. So to meet future energy demands along with making all reasonable efforts in conventional energy we must use infinite free solar energy directly as steam, heat and light without opting costliest solar electricity route. India gets such free infinite solar energy about 6000 trillion kWh each year without fail, which is 2000 times of current total energy use and 6000 times of our electricity consumption. I wonder how come no policy maker and no Indian except me is interested in this infinite and free source of energy which can solve all problems in a fraction of a second .

Come on, every Indian use free infinite solar energy for cooking , water heating , steam making and using that steam for scores of purposes, day lighting , direct heating by solar windows etc , dehydrated food and other, distill water making , drying , swimming pool heating, water purification and for any other work as heat , steam and light except wasting time like me. Come on Indians be wise as our conventional energy imports, scarcity and cost are unimaginably high. Please help mother India and yourselves.
