Udupi: Facebook case - Students led by ABVP gather in large numbers to protest

Umesh Marpalli
Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Jan 13: Nearly a thousand students from various colleges gathered at clock tower near service bus stand here on Monday January 13 in strong protest against the increasing number of crimes against women, particularly the recent case wherein a student was arrested for uploading pictures of a girl on Facebook.

The protest was organized and led by Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP).

The protestors expressed anguish at the increasing number of crimes against female college students. Shashira H P, convener of ABVP, condemned the uncensored posters wishing good luck to Mohammed Yaseer who was arrested for uploading lewd photos of a girl in Facebook.

Lamenting that kidnapping, rape and missing cases of female students of one community by the students of another community have been increasing, the convener said, “Sale of drugs and ganja in the college campuses have increased. Cases of love Jihad have continued.

"There is no security for female students in college campuses.  Though incidents such as these have continued, the authorities have not taken any action."

The protestors demanded that the accused be punished stringently after investigation without bowing for any political pressure. They also urged the concerned to ensure that incidents such as these do not reccur in the future and to provide ample security for female students.  They threatened of strong nationwide protests if suitable action is not taken against the culprit.

The protest lasted for two hours, during which the students completely blocked the road and halted traffic. They demanded that SP Dr Boralingaiah come to the spot and speak to them.

The SP came at around 12 noon and assured the protestors that appropriate action will taken in the case as per law. He asked them to give police one month's time, to which the students agreed. They also demanded that rape charges be slapped against the accused and urged the police to investigate the love Jihad issue as alleged by some.

DySP Prabhudev Mane, inspector Maruti G Nayak, Dinesh Kumar, SI Madhu S, SI Jayant and other police personnel provided security at the spot.

Trouble outside college

It is said that three girl students who participated in the protest were on their way back to their college after the protest, when a group of boys, students of the same college, stopped them from entering the campus. The ABVP members too arrived in support of the girls and chaos prevailed for sometime between the two groups.

The police who received information rushed to the spot and dispersed the groups.

Security has been tightened in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

The fact of the matter, protest was not for the justice.
    1. Yaseer has made 2 big mistakes, by sleeping with girl and posting it on Facebook.
    2. The girl has done a bigger mistake by sleeping with this idiot and allowing him to take pictures.
    3. The biggest mistake is by all protestors.

All the protestors need to control their tongues. Prove about love jihad. 7 lakhs???what's this??where did this figure come from?? Should not blame the whole community for the mistake done by a guy who do not know what is Islam. It looks todays girls have lost moral values and why the parents cannot teach these moral values to the children? These people are deceptive people and we cannot say girls fall prey to the trap. Rather, these girls are highly immoral. No wonder why women had inferior rights in the past. Women do not deserve rights and if they get the rights they definitely misuse them.
The question also arises why girls do not learn. Why parents do not teach strong moral values?

One political party supports such move and other opposes it as a result the case is not followed. Any crime or any incident as long as its not politicized and communualised, one can expect justice or else its gone down the drain. Brainless minds work to get political mileage by using students' power..Young power to be used for national integration, national unity and nation building and not for disunity, hate or for communualism..Students wake up and try to get to know the truth and if you know the truth, then you will never come out and participate.. Good luck to you all students and future generation of our nation.

    Shahnawaz Kukkikatte,
The students participated in this agitation, are not primary class students, everyone grown enough to know what they are doing and why they came to the street. You might be thinking that this agitation was for disunity, hate or for communalism. But, students might be thinking that they came to the street, since there was a threat for national integration, national unity and national building. What is harm in getting the political mileage by protesting such crimes, when some other political parties are trying to get the political mileage by protecting the culprits.

Students should stand firm for truth and not to represent one party's hate ideology. If they do biased protest, no one will show respect to them and someone will love them and someone will hate them. If you avoid words like "Love Jihad" "One community" "Another Community" then we have no problem with joining hand together. But here seems like protesting only for communalizing the issue to get Political mileage we have seen how ABVP was mum on Saujanya case

    Mr. DK,

the issue is communalizing in nature. if this was against crime, against girl then the issue of rape in manipal, sowjanya case everything should come out.

Someone says Love Jihad is rampant, without understanding basic principles of religion, these hooligans make excuses. First remove the communal mindset from each of your mind, before looking at such cases. Only then you will be able to come to a constructive solution.

You mean to say after this protest students stop taking drugs, drug peddlers stop selling trucks, and all students will be safe ! Common, this is part of politics, nothing else !

When issue its self communal then why not? does Indian Constitution given any special aurdienence not to speak for their community issues ? then CM Siddramayya should be arrested first who communalising ecah and everything, even provoking OBC s against general cast, today it self he attended OBC meeting. Tum kare to dhrmaachar hum kare to anachar hai kya?

You have every right to speak for your community same time it is not fair to target other community because of some individual committed crime. When Manipal gang rape happened no one pointed criminal as Hindus or Billavas.

There is no meaning nowadays for protests in a democratic way for certain issues.Only way out is catch the guy responsible for this heinous act and break his both legs so that others will think twice before indulging in such acts again. This is the only language they understand.

You need both hands to clap. So in such act both boy & the girl are equally responsible.

This protest is justified. But BJP should not try to encash this incident by using these innocent students.Because ABVP is a wing of the RSS which spreads hatred between communities.

It is the hour of time to find the root cause for this.
Lack of moral science in schools, s
Certain sections of the society opposing sex education in schools.

When we were in school 7th std our headmaster (now retired) was clearly telling us what should not be done before and what should be done after marriage.
Present society, lifestyle all ULTA- SULTA

Control your girls, don't blame boys.
Instead of moral policing wrong ladies, pub attacking, morning mist attack, School Girls' bus, Orphanage attack etc.
First need to light our house first instead of showing light to the world.

What happened is totally wrong, But having a premarital affair is 10000% wrong. Parents should be more strict with their children as well as all these students should learn a lesson from this.
Its against the law as well as religions to have premarital affair.
Both parties involved should be punished since you need both hands to clap also as long as both the subjects are above 18 years old they should be considered equal no matter boy or girl.
Some might say the girl is a very easy target. Nope, its not true these days.

Dear Manish, I agree with you. But in such cases, our society will support only girls . The photos clearly show that the girl is smiling with him, which means she was well aware of this act. Can't help it, ppl will talk bad about that boy only.

Protesting these things nothing will improve other than just time pass and waste of a day. Those who have protested against the fb case does they really knows the importance of social networking?Other than protesting if ABVP has conducted the training for the importance of social network and women security in each school they would have got the knowledge and also good use of time.
