Mangalore, Jan 13: Fire broke out Hampankatta branch of Syndicate Bank here on Monday January 13 night.

The fire was noticed at around 8.30 pm.

The cause for the fire is not yet ascertained but sources said that it might have been a short circuit.

Two fire engines from Pandeshwar rushed to the spot. The firemen had to break open the windows to reach inside the rooms that were affected by the fire.

Thick smoke was seen billowing out of the windows. The fire was brought under control after some effort.

    Dear Linus,
This building has history and memories of accounting.
We should not judge by the exterior appearance. You know what I mean. It's a bank.
Olden days the same bank and we too used to have LEDGERS which doesn't need electricity to run like Modern Computers.
    Think about it.

Mr. LINUS D'SOUZA, MANGALORE/DUBAI - Please let the readers know how a Bank building should look like ? Being in the UAE you are familiar with Monstrous Steel and Concrete structures that have no aesthetic or architectural attraction. Old heritage buildings are a pleasure to see and should be preserved for posterity.

This does not look like a bank, it looks like an old mansion " Purani Haveli " if you see the building pics.
