Mangalore, Jan 14: During the MCC elections last year, just before the electoral code of conduct came into effect, the main road that connects the national highway to Shaktinagar via Bikarnakatte was dug up for the purpose of road extension and concreting.

Later on, as the electoral code of conduct was imposed, although the road was dug up, the work remained pending.

Some of the locals alleged that a political party with a view to grab votes, had dug up the road to show some sort of development in the town. But as the elections were nearing, the work had to be stopped.

It has now been over a year that the road has remained untouched and the residents of the locality have been suffering from the rising dust levels. The residents of Shaktinagar too have suffered a lot as it was a connecting road to reach the city, and they were forced to take a longer route to reach their destinations.

After repeated requests from the public, the work was resumed around two months ago and it is indeed a relief for the residents.

The work is being carried out at a quick pace. Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo along with DC A B Ibrahim, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde and others visited the spot and inspected the work that is under progress. The work is close to completion and it is likely to be finished at the earliest, they have assured.

MLC Monappa Bhandary, officials Balakrishna Gowda, Rajashekar, Naresh Shenoy, Laxman Poojary, Corporators Akhila Alva, Mahabala Marla, former deputy mayor Shakila Kava, leaders T K Sudhir, Jayakar Samarth, Baptist D’Souza, Shailesh Alva, Yashwanth, Shekar Poojary, Suresh, Jalajakshi and others were present.

Concrete road should have been laid from Kulshekar junction till Shaktinagar. Due to monsoon this road was completely destroyed. Recently, some patch work has been done. Less said better about the status of inner roads. Due to strong builder lobby concreting is done from Bikarnakatta in which no city bus is plying.

Concrete road is only half finished. What about concrete road from Kulshekar to Gudi Bus stop. Only patch work completed recently. Private buses plying on this road every 10 minutes. Entrance road near Kulshekar is very narrow. Some vested interests are not allowed to do the road widening and concreting. Hope, the so called intelligent people of shaktinager/cordel will take more interest and put pressure on concerned officials to complete this road

Be happy things are moving on - elections or no elections.
Earlier only work used to start, but that was it.
Now work is being done and completed and that too within 6 months from taking over. So many earlier problems are to be solved\cleared. For any other Govt. it would have taken 2-3 years only to untangle the mess that was there when they took over.

MLAs\Ministers\officials\MPs of the present Govt. are all active. That is why the things have started moving on. They are not in resorts. They are in their offices\sites where the work is being done.
We will see a "SHINING KARNATAKA" soon with the old glory back and glowing.
Jealous organisations\political parties trying to create hurdles everywhere. Trying to instigate people in the name of religion. The people of Karnataka should not heed to these entities who have never worked for the good of the people of Karnataka.
Be with the present Govt. and help them in their endeavors to bring back the glory that was lost in the previous 5 years.
