Udupi, May 12: Prof Dr Belle  Monappa Hegde, former vice-chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), has been appointed member of a newly-formed committee to scrutinize and make recommendations on the need for constitution of an independent authority to regulate the post-graduate medical education in the country.

With secretarial assistance from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, the committee will present its report in a couple of months, on the possibility of setting up an independent statutory body, and also suggest the framework for the same.

The organization will acquire statutory powers to plan, develop and supervise the PG education and set it on a level with international standards.
