Dubai: Tulu drama 'Porlu Thuper...?' captivates audience

Dubai, Jan 18: Fans of Tulu theatre had a memorable evening on Friday January 17 as Gammath Kalavider, UAE stage Tulu drama 'Porlu Thuper..?' at Sheik Rashid auditorium, Indian High School.

The story, dialogue and music was by well-known drama director, writer and artiste Nellu Permannur, while direction was by Vishwanath Shetty.

The drama revolved around the story of a person who, despite being respected in society, cannot guide his two children to the right path. A struggling father, behavior of his two sons with their wives, life of a housemaid working for them, trouble created by a drunkard in the neighbourhood, lifestyle of two elderly persons living in the same neighbourhood... all these were poignantly depicted in the drama.

The drama beautifully blended humour and seriousness blended to convey a meaningful message to the audience. All the artistes rendered stunning performances that mesmerised the audience.

During intervals, singers Harish Sherigar and Akshatha Rao entertained the audience with Kannada hits.

Prior to the drama, businessman Ligoury D'Mello inaugurated the ceremony. Harish Bangera and his wife Latha Bangera, Shekhar B Shetty, Arab Udupi hotel owner, Harish Sherigar of Acme Building Materials, Sudhir Shetty, COO of UAE Exchange, Praveen Shetty of Fortune Group of Hotels, Bhagya Premanath Shetty, Vinu Vishwanath, businessman were the chief guests.

Gammath Kalavider representative, artist Rajesh Kuttar and his wife Beena, Nellu Permannur and Harish Pergade Kanthadiguttu, Matha Lakshmani Shanthidhama old age home, Mangalore were felicitated during the ceremony.

A cheque of Rs 4 lac, which was the amount raised during the drama,  was given to Harish Pergade Kanthadiguttu of Matha Lakshmani Shanthidhama old age home in Bantwal. In addition to this, a cheque of Rs one lac was given to the kin of artiste Dharmendra Ameen of Lakumi troupe. At the same time, Rs two lac by Devesh Alva, Rs one lac by Dharwad SDM College old students' association and cheque of Rs 25,000 by Nama Tuluver were given to Harish Pergade.

Gammath Kalavider organisation president, Vasu Shetty welcomed the guests and Abu Dhabi Karnataka organisation president, Sarvottam Shetty hosted the ceremony.
