Padubidri, May 14: A member of the Mudarangady Gram Panchayat was kidnapped and confined to a room. This incident came to light after the member who was set free from by the kidnapper registered a complaint at the police station.

Shanta who was on her way to attend a meeting was kidnapped by a rickshaw driver Shivram Bhandary. Owing to acute water shortage in the village the panchayat has called for an emergency meeting.

Shivram (25) kept Shanta confined in a room in the milk producer’s co-operative society building. It was here that another gram panchayat member Sukumar Shetty threatened her with death and forced her to sign on a blank sheet of paper.

After tremendous pressure, Shanta finally signed the paper following which she was released, but with warning that she should not disclose this to anyone.

Shanta however lodged a complaint at the police who are investigating in the matter.
