Mangalore, Jan 19:
Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development and People’s Campaign for Right to Water, Karnataka, launched, ‘Namma Neeru’ campaign in front of the DC’s office on Saturday January 18, against privatization of water.

It was part of a month-long campaign across the state of Karnataka. In Mangalore, students led by activist Vidya Dinkar raised slogans against the practice of water privatization and later collected signatures from the people which they said will be presented to the chief minister in a public event in February to demonstrate firm opposition to privatization.

The demand of the campaign is to stop water privatization in all its forms in Karnataka, enact a new law to provide water security to all the residents of the state, provide 135 liters of free water per person per day, strengthen public water institutions, and democratize their functioning.

Rakesh Kadri of People’s Campaign for Right to Water, Karnataka, said, “We will collect at least one lac signatures of people to show our opposition. Water is a basic right and it should be given freely.”

The campaign included meaningful songs from the troupe ‘Tharikita Jagrathi Thunda’, Bantwal, led by Uday Kumar, Jyothigudde, which highlighted the seriousness of water privatization. The song, ‘Neerige Banthu Bara’, said that it is the middle and poor class people who suffer from water privatization.

Nothing should be given free cost. See now electricity free for farmers/agriculturists. The bore wells are running relentlessly in power. Water is flowing like anything. Who cares?!

The government was also shrewd. They were cutting the power supply at every one hour or two and returns back power supply after 1-3 hours later.

Rich or Poor if payment is made to any commodity people realize the worthiness of the goods or commodity which they purchased.

Oh oh... Also to include Free 750ml whisky and Soda .. All Unemployed ..Moral police goons would have supported in large number.
    I am just joking..
Good initiative, but increase to 750 liters free water / family like AAP then u can try to form as a Mangalore Aam Admi party ( MAAP).
Good luck all protestor until water bill is free.
One more thing ..CONGRESS already in the process of increasing 12 GAS cylinders before Election..So no chance for other party to protest.
This is the time to protest for whatever is required for daily life for poor . We will get something before election atlaast for some time. Once elected and New government comes in then ..Same old story of economic recession ..depression , inflation , GDP growth, % ..% etc ,etc story follows for another 4 and half years..
Silently looteras will start looting Mines, Coal, Gas /oil wells,With different scan names coming up before the next elections like 2G,CWG,Adarsh scam, Coffin scam, Banagru sca and in between there will be communal tension just to divert peoples' attentions.

First of all, let us be supplied with enough water ,especially coming summer.135 ltrs won't help us much ,better charge us reasonably and manage the water supply efficiently. We have an abundance of rain water hope the govt takes some initiative on harvesting rain water. Borewells have caused much lowering of the water table in lot of places,so should be the last resort.

Actually water available everywhere in Mangalore. Just we require team persons who can show the point where we can dig borewell. Secondly, we require a team of bore well vehicles with all equipments. Thirdly, some one has to pay all these guys. Then there will be 24 hours water, water and water. We dig four wells in the village, used dynamites also. Sutte kambi pade kallugu bottud bottud sakaad pondu. Aandala neeru thikkuduye. Devarige namaskara.
