Mangalore, May 15: The District Anti-Rowdy Squad has busted a note-doubling racket in the city and arrested two persons hailing from Shimoga in this connection.

Thimmaraju alias Raju alias Ravi Kiran (35) a resident of Shanthinagar Shimoga and Hamsa Mohammed (40) of Basavanagudi Shimoga were arrested by the team lead by Vinay Gaonkar.

On Sunday May 14 noon, the police obtained credible information that a note-doubling party had camped in a lodge at KS Rao road. The cops rushed to the said lodge along with the Anti-Rowdy Squad Staff and found above the duo in a room.

On examination the police found a huge bundle of Rs 100 currency notes and another bundle of Rs 50 currency notes wrapped with transparent polythene sheets and rubber bands. It was found that only a few Rs 100 and Rs 50 rupees notes were kept on the top and the rest were plain paper sheets of the same size.

The accused confessed guilt and revealed that they cheat people in the pretext of supplying counterfeit notes. It was also found that the duo had reached Mangalore in search of prospective dealers

The two counterfeit currency bundles contained 11 notes of Rs 100 denomination and 13 notes of Rs 50.
