Rahul Gandhi demands “national minority” status to Jains

New Delhi, Jan 20 (Agencies) : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday met PM Manmohan Singh, urging him to consider speedily giving “national minority” status to Jains.

The minority affairs ministry has already moved a Cabinet note on conferring Jains minority status. Once approved, it will be then taken up by the National Commission for Minorities, which has powers to notify a religious group as a national minority.

Such as status would help confer constitutional safeguards to Jains and make them eligible for welfare programmes of the minority affairs ministry.

Gandhi’s move came after a delegation of Jain leaders led by Union Minister Pradeep Jain had met him to se
ek his support for the notification of Jains as a minority community at the national level.

The AICC had said in a release that Jain Samaj leaders had spoken to Rahul about their long-pending demand for minority status for the community and urged him to support their cause.

“Rahul recognised the role played by the Jain community in the social, cultural and economic development of the country. He assured the delegation that he would do his utmost to ensure fair and equitable recognition and representation for the Jain community,” the release said.

This kind of political drama was not expected from Mr. Rahul Gandhi...why would such prosperous and progressive community by itself would demand some special treatments from government...JAINS are so successful in the respective fields..that they are capable to support others and be the solid molecule for the
progress of the country...JAINS don't need the MINORITY STATUS..THESE IS JUST A POLITICAL GAME FOR THE VOTE BANK. This face of congress will not gain votes..but will just be abused for their dirty games of discrimination on the religious grounds..

    This is not fair.

Infact it should be given to Mogaveera community who contribute a lot to national income. Inspite of it they don't get security.

Rahul Gandhi should have known that the majority of Jains are the hardcore supporters of BJP. So, giving them minority status now during election time will not snatch them away from BJP.

Union Minister Pradeep Jain along with Jain leaders sought Rahul's support to accord Minority status to Jain's at the national level.

It is purely Jain community's legitimate demand.

There is no point in criticizing, Rahul or Congress for assuring them his support!

95% of Jains have never asked for Minority Status. Congis asked their own Jain Workers to raise this issue before RG and give Publicity to Rahul G.
If Govt Considers that Jains are not Sub-Caste within Hinduism, but they are separate Religion, then all Hindu Religious institutions in the hands of Jains will have to be given to pure Hindus or to the Govt Endowment dept.

Will you please give a list of Hindu institutions which are in the hands of Jains? There is very big list of Jain institutions which are in the hands of sanatan vaidik will you please answer what will you do for that. 1) Badrinath Temple . The idol is of Rushabhdev first tirthankar of jains.
    2) Kesariyaji Temple, Rajsthan. There was dispute between swetamber and digamber for ownership of the temple . So less people were going to this temple .During this time pandas put shivling at one corner and put vyas pith inside the temple. 3) Tirupati Balaji and many more south Indian temples

Rahul wants an aap kind of movement within congress, but there are oldies in the party who are not ready to let go their power and positions, and that is making his transition also difficult finally he has managed, by getting all young folks like scindia, sujrewal, maken etc to manage the party affairs at least some change ..Again, anyone who has spent more than 30 years should be asked to serve the party only without any ticket or position

Rahul Gandhi has gone bonkers. He needs a proper treatment for his madness. One aggressive speech at the CWC and he thinks he can do wonders. Why cant he find out ways to provide more employment opportunities rather than giving freebies and swelling up the list of minority communities. As it is, minorities are creating all the problems.

I have a request with our political leaders to change your minority and majority issues on religious ground rather you can set the minority purely on their economic status. Now a days upper caste people have become minority due to non preference for them in govt. jobs. Please stop this nonsense, let the minority be lower income group people irrelevant of their caste and creed.

'Sabhi Minority Ho Tho-Majority Kaun Bhai'? What a topic to discuss in the 21st century that too in a country boasting to be a super power in 2020!
I think there should be a different yardstick, something like an organ to judge the major and the minor...High time this 'yard stick' is applied....
    To boot:

Indian political leadership is at all time low. While the Congress hopes that the collective minority flanks will put them in power and is hence trying to devise more and more subsets for creating minorities. The BJP is scare mongering the Hindu majority about their illusory vulnerability to garner votes.
Its high time we look at the true credentials of the persons before voting them in and avoiding those who tag the communal line of majority and minority.

..why this Congress hooks & crook trying to divide the nation..already much damage has been done in the name of quota & reservation..now this party trying to label people on religious ground..we as a nation should learn that Majority/minority notion itself alienated people from the mainstream, making them feel third class citizens...by giving reservation & soaps Congress tempting people to dance on the vote bank tune..Hope Jain people understand this..

While I have high regards for Jain Community, the national minority reservation status is uncalled for. In fact, we need to gradually come out of minority status as currently, the majority of the people are adversely affected by this policy. The government benefits should go to the genuinely poor and deserving people, irrespective of their religious background. While the laws against untouchability, caste, creed, religion should be strictly followed, in all other respects, all Indians should have equal opportunities in all spheres of life. I do not think Bharat Ratna Ambedkarji wanted reservation policy for eternity.
