Mangalore, May 15: Six cows were roasted alive in a sudden fire caused by an electrical short circuit in the bathroom and cattle-shed of a house in Kemar near here on Saturday night.

The mishap occurred in the outhouse of Ambrose Pinto's home. Since the members of the household had locked up the house and were on a visit to Mumbai to attend a marriage, immediate steps to control the fire could not be taken. Only their neighbours were taking care of the house.

As the fire broke out, the tiles of the roof started blasting and splintering. Some neighbours woke up to find the spreading flames. Water was pumped over the fire and it was brought under control. In the meantime, the Moodbidri fire brigade too rushed in to fire-fighting mission.

However, it was too late to save the lives of the cows. The owner of the house is said to have been informed of the fire mishap.
