Mangalore, Jan 22: All like-minded environmental organizations, along with citizens of Mangalore will hold a protest at Freedom Park in Bangalore against the Yettinahole or Netravati River Diversion Project on January 28, said social activist M G Hegde.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday January 22, he criticized union minister Veerappa Moily for his comments in favour of Yettinahole Project, and said, "Moily claims that he had held discussions regarding the Yettinahole project with experts, but he should also disclose when and with whom he had discussed the project. Has he convened any meeting with people of the coastal area, environmental experts, DC or with officials? He should brief these details through the media.

"Veerappa Moily’s political career began from here, he used Dakshina Kannada as a stepping stone for his political growth but now he is insulting and deceiving the people of Dakshina Kannada with Yettinahole project for his political interest. Let Veerappa Moily hold a press conference and release the project report. Moily is not only a politician but also litterateur, hence he should have guided us. If he does not stop this project from materialising, we activists will hold a protest against him waving black flags and also question Moily about this issue in all public functions," he warned.

"Even former chief ministers D V Sadananda Gowda is confused about the project. Why this confusion? We the people of coastal area will never allow this project," he asserted.

"We request MLAs, MP, ministers and all political leaders irrespective of party affiliations, and NGOs to join this cause. There will also be protests in Uppinangady against this project on January 24 at around 9 am," he added.

On this occasion Suresh Shetty, V R Puthran, Anitha Shivaraj, Shashikala, Dinesh Shetty and others were present.

Water is an essential commodity.Natrural resources shoud be shared across and distributed to everyone as needed. Just allowing water to flow to the sea and not having drinking water and irrigation for drought hit areas is a criminal waste of natural resource. Offcourse we should minimise the damage and if there is a alternate solution we should give it a good thought

If only our river Ganga was diverted then, India would have been a drought free Country.
Today the Ganga flows into the sea only with filth, human and cattle carcasses.
I can only plead with our so called environment specialists to think with their own BRAINS...

Diverting Ganga river to South of Vindhya is not an easy thing, because north of Vindhya is on the lower plain as compared to Deccan plateau which is on a much higher plane. So diverting river water from the lower plateau to the high plateau is not possible with the natural force of water flow. Pumping enormous amount of water across Vindhya from the lower plain to a higher plain involves very high cost and huge amount of electricity, which is not feasible.

I do not admire the decision of DK, MP and MLAs, decision to sell the natural resources of Mangalore namely water, land, animals, plant life, forest. I wonder why we voted them. They are ready to sell our life and blood, Nethravathi water, Niddodi land and all the fertile land in the name of development which is so called the vested interest and Commission to the pockets of our Politicians. I feel ashamed to call them as our representatives because they have sold the voters with their own sisters and brothers to the hands of money. I wonder why we need development at the cost of destruction of mother earth. So, dear politicians, no more you will be getting the seats for MP or MLA. We know, what you have done. Next time, u will sit beside me to protest and protest our land and your land too

Diverting Nethravathi or any naturally flowing river for that matter is like playing with fire. It will create high ecological imbalance in the long run, which can prove disastrous to the entire region. We already see the results of deforestation in the Western Ghats. This has to be stopped at all costs. The best solution for Yettinahole is to conserve and store rainwater in nearby areas.

" Koti bennu tindu,,, kaiyannu mekaya mukakke Orasindante"....

This Moily in addition to everything he has done also put some of the money he collected in Kissan Sabha Scholarship Fund...perhaps Rohith Shetty is a beneficiary of this during his School days...

Rohith when he goes next time to Karkala should visit late Sadananda Kamath's family and should learn the full story of Dr. M Veerappa Moily from the days of being attender in LIC onwards....

First of all Moily should get clearance for the Hubli Karwar Railway line by convincing green bench of the Supreme court.
Secondly, he should get SC green bench clearance for Chikamagalur Dharmasthala Railway line.
After that he can speak about Ettinahole project.

I will agree for the river diversion project if :

    1. Hassan-Blore Railway line is completed.
    2. The underground railway line is laid between Sakleshpura and Subramanya
    3. Underground road is laid in Shiradi Ghat.
    4. Hubli-Ankola railway project is cleared.
    5. Put a permanent end to sea erosion.
    6. Separate rail division for Mlore under SWR Hubli

The govt is not interested in development of Coastal sector, but very much faster in snatching the resources from here. Can this useless Moily get one train to Mangalore?

If we are given something, we should not hesitate to give back.

Dinesh, Hassan-Bengaluru Railway line is not held up due to environmental problem, but it is held up as the Stud Farm Owners in Kunigal have not given land for this Rly project and they have brought Court Stay Order. A Line from Hasan to Shravana Belagola is ready and some trains are already running between Hassan-Belagola. Only Hubli-Ankola and Talaguppa-Honnavar lines are held up due to objection from Environment Ministry and Supreme Court.
Moily has got the capacity to get clearance for this from the Supreme Court before LS election if he sincerely tries. Because he has done the miracle of granting clearance for 52000 crore rupees Posco steel project in Odisha just within only one week after he took over Environment Ministry .

What is wrong in diverting excess rain water Yettinahole project definitely be useful to other people.people who are in the city who are least bothered about others are only protesting.During rainy season flood water rushes to the low lying area on the either banks of the river we the residents of that area only experience the difficulty.
We wish the project to be started at the earliest

Oily Moily is very slippery. He is misleading coastal people about Ettinahole.
He cleared 200 projects within one month after he took over the Environment Ministry from Jayanthi Natarajan. All these 200 projects were very hazardous to the environment, so Jayanthi had not given clearance for long.
But same Moily could not get environment clearance for much needed Hubli-Ankola Railway Line. So his so called love for Karnataka is evident.
Let him to field his Son from Mangalore for LS election, people will teach him a lesson.
