Karkala: Murder at Palli - Police arrest accused

Karkala, Jan 23: Police on Wednesday January 22 arrested a youth in connection with the murder of Arun D'Almeida, a resident of Kaveribettu, who was found dead at Palli here on Tuesday January 21.
The accused has been identified as Suresh Shetty alias Chakkuli Suresh, a resident of Ninjoor Chitrabailu Megha house.
The incident occurred on the night of Monday, January 20. It is said that a fight erupted between Arun and Suresh at a wine shop at Palli, ending in the murder of Arun.
When matters came to a boil, the accused under the influence of alcohol went home in his bike, brought a machete and killed Arun with it, police sources said.
Arun, who was seriously injured on the face and head, died due to severe loss of blood. The accused has admitted to his crime, police said.
The police, however, have not diclosed the reason for their fight. It is suspected that the rampant gambling that is prevalent in the area might have led to Arun's murder, but the police have not confirmed it. Also, it is said that the wine shop remained open beyond the permitted hours.
