Mangalore: Tussle for Congress ticket - Poojary's supporters meet CM

Tussle for Congress ticket - Poojary's supporters meet CM

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore/Bangalore (EP)

Mangalore/Bangalore, Jan 24: The battle for the coveted ticket for Mangalore Lok Sabha seat in the Congress party gained further momentum on Thursday January 23, when around 250 supporters of Janardhan Poojary met chief minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar separately, urging them to issue the ticket to the former union minister.

The delegates travelled to Bangalore by private and government buses and reached near Arogya Bhavan on Bangalore’s Magadi road on Thursday morning.  They held discussions with minister of health and family welfare U T Khadar there, proceeded with the backing of Dakshina Kannada district incharge minister Ramanath Rai, and met chief minister Siddaramaiah at 3 pm at his office ‘Krishna’ and submitted a memorandum urging him to consider only Janardhan Poojary as the candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Poojary had struggled hard to make seven Congress candidates win in the last legislative assembly elections.  He still works hard for the party despite his age.  As there is a Congress wave in the state, Poojary has good chances of winning. Poojary should be given the ticket for the benefit of the party.  Congress activists in Dakshina Kannada are determined to get win the seat for the party," said the party leaders and workers.

The group then met KPCC president Dr Parameshwar at the party office at 4.30 pm and submitted a memorandum urging him to recommend Poojary.

Parameshwar assured that the demand will be brought to the notice of the party high command and that the ticket issuing process will be similar to that in the United States of America.  “The opinion of about 500 people including MLAs, MPs, former MLAs, former MPs, former mayor, block presidents and others will be gathered by ballots. The high command will then decide on who should get the ticket," he said.

The delegation consisted of MLA Vasanth Bangera, Mohiuddin Bava, Vijaya Kumar Shetty, party leaders Ibrahim Kodichal, Mohammed Masood, Mohammed Badruddin, P V Mohan, Kallige Taranatha Shetty, Shashidhar Hegde, Mahabala Marla, Naveen D’ Souza, Abbas Ali, Hemanatha Shetty, Sanjiva Moily, T K Sudheer, block Congress presidents, zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat and gram panchayat members, presidents and hundreds of party workers.

One of the district Congress leaders later said that the high command has responded positively to their appeal.

A supporter of union minister Veerappa Moily and former president of MUDA, K Thejomaya who had come to meet the chief minister stayed away from the delegation, it is said.

Meanwhile Janardhan Poojary has remained in Delhi lobbying for the ticket.

Do these people who throng for a ticket for contesting the MP seat have any plans for DK/Mangalore.definitely not.
Poojary attached to a temple and knows only to please his madam at Delhi, nothing else.
Ask Nalin..whether he has any plans for his constituency...if anybody ask him,he may be taken back and ask ...unchala unda marre!!! His mission is only to carry out an agenda of his master's voice of Kalladka.
Still, people go behind these people without any idea what they are doing, just like popular proverb"panjida piravu podu kanjila pee thinundge"!!!

Mangalorean's are well educated and the best candidate should be ed no matter what caste or religion, he is from.Think about the Nation first when voting in the LS election and not about issues like Caste etc.

I don't quite understand your logic?? So Mangalorean's based outside Mangalore should not speak about Mangalore?? Do you think just by working in a foreign country, I am no longer a Indian Citizen or a proud Mangalorean. Sorry I don't agree and I am sure all other NRI's don't agree too.

I have a request for You..find me a job that only pays 1/4th of what I get paid here and I will shift back to India. I don't have a big desire for money. It is only that my profession is respected more here than in my country. Writing something in daiji is very easy my friend.

The opposite party reported to Oscar. Oscar shot a letter to my father and asked him to meet Mulki Church on such and such date. My father attended and in that event my father was found to be right opposite found wrong, then he told my father he will call another meeting which did not happen after that we stopped to believe politicians. Surprising to see Mr Poojaris name again for Mangalore constituency even after loosing it for 4 times with large Margins.

When whole country is voicing its concern against the old faces contesting again and again and ruining this country and making it weak on the international scene, and when there is an chorus on giving chance to more and more educated youngsters, Mr Poojaris candidature may not be a right decision one.

At the same time since Billavas and Bunts are the major community in undivided south Kanara Dt., and since Udupi will again be repeated by Mr Jaya Prakash Hegde by Congress, For Mangalore Congress should search a good youngster from Billava Community, if they really wants to win both Mangalore and Udupi seats.

In DK Bunt and Billava people are deciding factors in electing peoples representatives. It is a fact that in Udupi bye election to LS Mr.J.P.Hegde has won because of he comes from Bunt caste. He also qualifies for the position. In Mangalore too we should experiment this idea and Congress should give ticket to a Bunt candidate this time. There are lot of bunt people in Congress but they are ignored so far and votes are going to BJP candidate as Nalin is Bunt.Caste factor dominates much in the soceity.
Let Congress give ticket this time Corporator Sri Shashidhar Hegde who is former mayor and well experienced in Mangalore matters. He is doing really doing a good job since years.Poojary should support him in toto.

Let's touch our heart and ask one question to our self we can't find any development in mlore from past many years.. Though we voted for NALIN last time we din get any support from him. We all fight among us in the name of the parties. But frankly speaking, I can't find anyone who speaks about the improvement of Tulunadu. My humble request to all of you is please elect a suitable,able,non-corrupt leader who can take mlore to heights, and mainly work for the poor people. Forget about parties and think about Individual. None of the Party has not helped anyone in Mangalore if i am not wrong... lets be practical and elect a right candidate.... Comparing present two candidates i prefer JP than NALIN because JP can raise his voice on behalf of ppl in the parliament.. It might be UPA or NDA we can guarantee that JP's voice will be loud in the parliament... LETS THINK BEFORE "INK"
    AND NOT BLINK AFTER "SINK"

Because whether he loses or wins, he is always with the workers in their bad times. When there is a Corporation election or MLA elections candidates don't expect Moily or Oscar to canvass for them, they expect only Mr.Poojary to canvass for them.
Mr.Poojary day and night along with the hot son has worked day and night for the candidates.

Day Oscar won his first election ie January 6th 1980 after counting and procession we (may be 50 people) went to Poojary's house in Mangalore at around 1 AM...we found him sleeping on the ground with his family...he himself made "Sharbath" in his own hands and gave it to us all...

You can ask Oscar, Sabhapathy, Saralaya, Gafoor or other 45 persons who went with Oscar about this...

Now I have no clue who Oscar will support Poojary or Moily...my best guess is he might try to be as neutral as he could...

This is called CONgress...Paramehwara while adding Harsha'a name as suggested by Moily(of course Moily will deny this) added his own 4 more names for other constituencies this is called CONgress again...

Now BJP could be happy that their worthy(???) candidate is safe.....whoever is the CONgress candidate other CONgress aspirant will defeat him...

Let me say this before I conclude...Even though Poojary has no control over his tongue,,, he is not corrupt like our Vidhwaan from Karkala...

Unnecessary confusion created by Congress when there was only one name suggested by local Congress men. I can see lot of comments from Sangh supporters as they are very eager to know who will be the opponent to the voiceless MP from Mangalore. But this time, we have to send a strong voice from Mangalore and I am sure Mangaloreans will elect the suitable candidate.

There are lots of comments for and against Mr. Janardhana Poojary. Some say he is old and power hungry. But everybody forgets that he is the one leader who is selfless and always worked for poor and weakest. Today everybody is talking about Aam admi party as they are against corruption. This party is just born and we have to see how they behave in the long run. People forget that we have aam admi politician within us with a proven track record of more than 35 years with a clean image and always had a simple life even when he was minister.

Do you think youngsters make any difference? We have young MP from Mangalore and everybody knows his contribution. Why age should be factor when the person is active like a youngster and always work for the people? Everybody has to go through different stages in life and only being young will not help the society. The contribution of the person to the society is more important than the age group he belongs.

It is really sad and unfortunate that Mr. Poojary who puts his heart and soul in whatever he does for the Congress party is made to sweat for a ticket. There is not an iota of doubt that he is a disciplined worker of the party. He may not be saying the right things at the right moment due to which he lands in trouble, but when it comes to working for the Congress party and for the common people, I cannot find a better person than him. His biggest asset is that, to the best of my knowledge, he is not corrupt which is a refreshing breath of fresh air in this corrupt world of politicians. He is somebody who calls a spade a spade and this straight forward quality is something that is not liked by many. Hence his unpopularity among his own party men.
I am of the firm opinion that we need people like Mr. Poojary if we have to start having some faith in the politicians. Their stock has hit rock bottom and if at all it has to rise, it has to be done by people like Mr. Poojary. He is far and away the best chance the Congress has in this election. From the look of it, it appears as if the Congress has already conceded defeat even before the elections have been announced. If at all they stand a fighting chance, it is only through Mr. Poojary in Mangalore. Instead of giving him the ticket, if they bring somebody else like Harsha Moily, that will only sound their death knell.

If you are elected from Mangalore from any party, you have a great task ahead starting from Kottara.Kottara area is most polluted area under MCC with open drainage,no underground drainage facility among local/near by residential colonies.Added to this lot of big flat constructions in the area, making a hell of locals life. They are suffering from acute dust pollution, coughing problem etc.,due to dust created by high rise flats under construction.Area is most neglected one.

BJP, B. Janardhana PoojaRY is now old. He should sideline and give opportunities to the young ones. Any younger ones if the tassel comes reject both and bring a new younger candidate.

BOTH B.J.P AND H.M SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TICKET FROM CONG-RACE.

Both Janardhan Poojary and Harsh Moily are not wining candidate,If Congress wants to win Mangalore consistently they have to bring some new face familiar in this consistency. Why not Congress leader convince M N Rajendra Kumar of Cooperative movement to contest for MP election.Last election, he worked in favor of Congress also he has very good connection with last majority of people. He is really a good bet for this seat if other so called leaders allow him to contest

Why there is no rule in politics that twice lost candidates cannot contest elections!!..I think AAM AADMI vote has no value these days as even though they show the mandate twice if the same candidate is given, it is loss for congress as again, BJP will come in Mangalore..please high command request you to take advise of mass public of Mangalore and decide and not go with just 500 people if you really want Mangalore seat..as Mangalore people are the educated lot and they will vote for a good candidate and not the party!..All the Best

Conduct a MINI-POLL in Dakshina Kannada district before March, with two candidates :

    2. Harsha Moily. Symbol : Left Hand

The winner can be the candidate for Lokasabhe election.
