Mangalore, May 17: The controversy over the construction of a multi-storeyed building on K S Rao Road on Tuesday attracted the attention of the Assistant Commissioner of Mangalore who got a specific order from the Deputy Commissioner to study whether there was any violation of Section 133 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (causing public nuisance).

Assistant Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, acting on the complaint lodged by the Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development, on Tuesday visited the spot and conducted an enquiry. He held talks with the promoters of the building and the office-bearers of the forum at the site.

Sharma told presspersons that there was a specific complaint under Section 133, which needed to be assessed by the administration.

He said since the hill had been cut at the construction site, people living in the apartment block above the hill and some landmarks such as the Light House faced danger, according to the complaint.

Vidya Dinakar of the forum said excavation work was started in January and the Mangalore City Corporation had given the licence on March 6. She said it was a case of arm-twisting as Commissioner, and Assistant Town Planning Officer of the city corporation would vouch for the calendar of events.
