Mangalore: BEM Institution post-centenary platinum jubilee celebrations conclude

Mangalore, Jan 26: The post-centenary platinum jubilee celebrations of BEM Educational Institutions culminated with a grand event at the BEM high school grounds here on Saturday January 25.
Roshan Kumar, principal of BEM PU College welcomed and introduced the chief guests.
Former Karnataka DGP H T Sangliana, in his presidential speech, said "Many movies and articles have been written and shown with regard to my work; these have depicted my entire life story. I want all the people of this country to be honest. It gives me immense pleasure to say that this school is providing good education. In our days it was hard to receive education."
Walter J Maben, president of management board in his keynote address, said, "If we look back 200 years and think about the general conditions prevailing in the country then, we may get several responses. Some may say that we were a rich country in terms of both material richness and cultural heritage. It is natural to remember only the good things of the past and bask in the forgotten glory. A few say that on the whole, we were in an unenviable situation where the rich and the powerful throttled the rest."
"Therefore while considering the good and great things about the past, it may also be relevant for us to remember the other side of the coin. The backwardness in many ways that was the bane of the common man then, is so even now, to a lesser degree. Much as we would like it to be forgotten, we cannot erase history though it may not be palatable to us. A small section of the society which gained by these beliefs either inherited or were handed over from generations, had to strive hard to perpetuate these customs and beliefs so as to maintain themselves at a higher plane," he added.
M Ravalnath Prabhu, benefactor and ex student of BEM school was felicitated during the ceremony.
Rev John Stephen Sadananda, CSI bishop, Karnataka Southern Diocese, Mangalore, said "The role of a teacher towards every student is very important. Teachers are real life changers as they can teach values to the children. BEM institution is providing quality education in all fields."
Prakash Simon, president of UBMC expressed his gratitude towards the management as he was a part of this celebration and wished for the future success of the institution.
Alwyn Ananda, treasurer proposed the vote of thanks and a memento was presented to the guests as a token of remembrance.
Capt Ganesh Karnik, Jayanthi Purushottam, headmistress of higher primary school, John S Anchan, secretary, Rohan Shiri and others were also present.
