Mangalore, May 17: The onset of South-west monsoon is first reported in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in the State on Wednesday May 17 morning.

Only a few instances of light showers were seen in May, the last being on Thursday May 4 night. Thereafter thought the weather was gloomy many times, rains had eluded the districts.  This has aggravated the drinking water scarcity in the region.

But on Wednesday May 17, showers were witnessed in and around the city.  Though the people living in the city were not fortunate enough to witness the showers, people living in the outskirts of the city such as Konaje, Tokkottu, Ullal, Farangipet, Adyar, Shaktinagar, Mudipu etc received good showers in the early hours of Wednesday.
