Kudla Cup – Annual Sports Event in Muscat

Muscat, Jan 27: The advent of the new year 2014 was welcomed with sportsman spirit and great fervor  at the 3rd Annual Sports Day on Friday, January 17, 2014  by Kudla Friends, Muscat. The entire event encompasses four Fridays, with  the concluding Friday throwing open Volleyball ,Throwball, Lagori, and Tug of War  matches.

Kudla Friends -  Muscat, a strong trio  of  Srikanth Shetty , Suraj Rebello and Yuvraj Salian , have successfully and undauntingly, conducted various events in the past two  years of inception. In the sports arena, on a very encouraging note,  every year the number of teams participating , has been increasing.



























Almost two hundred people,  comprising of  cricket team members, sports enthusiasts and ardent supporters thronged the ground much before the actual start.  The display of great spirit , presence and  support  marked  the essence of the day.

Fine weather supplemented the initiating  inaugural function and the onset Cricket matches. The first round of cricket matches commenced  at the Al Ghubrah Grounds. The field was laid with  a fine pitch and all the infrastructure vital to the event ,as taken care of.

Suraj Rebello of Kudla Friends, welcomed  one and all present at the venue. He announced the names of the teams and it was very overwhelming to note that this year Kudla Friends got 10 teams enrolled . Two  teams Shettigar XI and Bovi XI were the new entrants.

Cricket Teams :

1. Bearys XI
2. South Kanara Muslim Brothers (SKMB)
3. Mangalore Catholic Centre of the Parish (MCCP)
4.Oman Billawas
5. Muscat Mogaveers
6. Kulal XI
7. Bunts XI
8. Vishwakarma XI
9. Shettigar XI
10. Bovi XI

 The teams had different colored attire and uniformly set themselves on the field.
Inaugural Function:

The 3rd Annual Sports day commenced with the inaugural function. Two esteemed  guests  from the Mangalorean community Shri. Ramesh Shettigar and Shri. S.K. Poojary ,were welcomed with floral bouquets by Yuvraj Salian and Srikant Shetty from Kudla Friends respectively.
 All the team captains with  their team players assembled on the cricket field.
The guests,  Shri. S.K. Poojary and Shri. Ramesh Shettigar , inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon . A  friendly match was played by the guests to  declare the  first round of matches open.
Shri.Ashok Suvarna, an esteemed member of the Mangalore community  officiated the toss . Suraj Rebello explained the rules of the game .


First Round matches on 17.01.2014
1.      KULAL XI won against BOVI XI by 10 wickets
2.      Vishwakarma XI won against Bearys XI by 29 runs.
3.      Muscat Mogaveer’s won against Oman Billawas by 32 runs.
4.      MCCP XI lost to Bunts XI by 8 wickets.
5.      SKMB won against Shettigar XI by 52 runs.
 
Second Round matches on 24.01.2014
 
1.      Muscat Mogaveer’s won against MCCP XI by  20 runs.
2.      SKMB won against Bovi XI by 5 wickets
3.      Kulal XI lost against Oman Billawas by 10 runs.
4.      Bunts XI lost to Bearys XI by 6 wickets.
5.      Vishwakarma XI won against Shettigar XI by 3 wickets.
The only Quarter final Match Bearys XI won against SKMB by 7 runs.

Semi Finals

1.      Vishwakarma XI won against Oman Billawas 6 runs.
2.      Muscat Mogaveer’s won against Bearys XI by 6 wickets.
 
Finals will be held on 31.01.2014

All the ladies Matches will be held on 31.01.2014 from 8.00 am onwards.
