Beltangady, Jan 28: The death of a woman in Dharmasthala under mysterious circumstances a week ago has been registered as a murder case in Beltangady police station. The husband of the deceased, arrested by the police in connection with the case, escaped from police custody on Monday January 27.

The woman, identified as Manjushree(19), wife of Satish, a resident of Adilu in Dharmasthala, died at the government hospital in Mangalore after suffering from burns caused due to a fire at her husband's house on January 16.

The parents of the deceased, after coming to know that she was in love with Satish, had got her married to him three months ago.

Manjushree’s uncle requested the police to investigate Manjushree's death, expressing suspicions that it was a planned murder.

As Beltangady police did not respond to the request, he complained to the SP.  The SP acted on it and assigned the ASP the responsibility of the investigation.  The ASP who visited the house of the deceased, suspected the role of her husband and arrested him.

Investigation has revealed that the suspect had poured kerosene and set her on fire.

On January 27, when Satish was being taken to Beltangady government hospital for examination, he escaped from police custody.  Police are on the lookout for Satish.
