Kasargod, Feb 1: Three youths' attempt to flee from police ended in the death of one of them, while the other two sustained injuries. The incident was reported at Neeleshwar on Thursday January 30 night.

Two among the three youths who took to their heels on seeing the police fell into a well. One of them died.

The deceased has been identified as K V Shashidhar (28), a resident of Chittipura, Neeleshwar.

His accomplices V Ganesh (28) and P V Sajith (27) were injured and admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.

On Thursday night, after finishing a painting job they were engaged in, the three of them stood chatting by the roadside at Chittipura. A police team on night beat came by that road, and seeing them, the frightened youths ran away.

Growing suspicious, the police gave them a chase. Shashidhar and Ganesh fell into an open well, while Sajith was caught and allegedly thrashed by the police.

The locals said that the police failed to notice the two who had fallen into the well, and left the spot with Sajith in their custody.

Hours later, after locals informed the fire service, the fire personnel arrived at the spot and lifted Ganesh and Shashidhar out from the well. By then, Shashidhar had already lost his life.

Following the incident, locals gheraoed Neeleshwar police station and followed it up with a day-long hartal on Friday January 31.

Well, why they have to be fearful of Police if they have not committed any offense?

Looks like they were doing some planning, criminal in nature, and the guilty conscience prompted them to take a marathon run.

Anyway, sad to note one of the three is no more.

These 'beat' police are always 'upbeat' about their prospects and more often than not end up goofing.
Innocents are caught while the 'big fish' escape the net.
This incident is very unfortunate. However, wonder why Sajith did not inform the police about his companions who fell in the well...
