Udupi, May 20: The district will have a new landmark in the form of the service bus stand-cum-commercial complex which will be inaugurated on Sunday May 21 here. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.41 crore under the Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Programme. The Puttur-Santhekatte, commercial complex, built at a cost of Rs 36 lac, will also be inaugurated on the occasion.
Addressing reporters here MLA Raghupati Bhat said that owing to congestion at the present service bus stand, KSRTC buses will be directed to the new bus stand and gradually service buses running on some routes will also stop here.
The inauguration of the service bus stand will be done by minister for Transport Chaluvarayaswamy while district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya will inaugurate the Santhekatte complex.
The chief guests will be union minister Oscar Fernandes, City Municipal Council president Shanta Krishna Naik, MP Manorama Madhwaraj, MLA Raghupati Bhat and KUIDFC managing director Javed Akhter.
Bhat informed that Mangalore-Manipal express buses will get sufficient space in the new bus stand. The existing flower market will be auctioned after the Manipal-Mangalore bus stand is shifted, he said.
The ground floor and first floor of the new bus stand-cum-commercial complex have a base area of 643.26 sq metres each. There are 11 commercial shops in the ground floor and 15 in the first floor. Each floor has two toilets. The building is surrounded by concrete road of 1,750 sq metres and asphalted road of 1020 sq metres.
