Mangalore, May 21: In yet another case of an 'attention-diversion' trick, Jayashri, a housewife from Kodickal, lost a bag containing cash and valuables worth Rs 1.98 lac at Kodialbail here on Saturday.

Her husband had parked their car near Karnataka Bank and walked into the bank for a short while, while the wife waited in the car. A stranger came close to the car and told her some money had fallen on the ground. As she opened the door to check, another person is said to have snatched a bag from the car and both vanished within no time.

The bag is said to have contained jewellery worth 148 grammes and Rs 50,000 in cash. They had bought the gold for a wedding, said the police sources.
