Eight from coastal districts among winners of state Media Academy Awards

Bangalore, Feb 6: Manipal Media Network chief T Satish U Pai has been chosen for the Karnataka Media Academy’s Special Award for life-time achievement for the year 2013.
 
Seven other journalists from the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada have been chosen for the Academy’s awards for their contribution for the years 2012 and 2013.

The seven award winners from the coastal districts are: B M Hanif of Prajavani (Dakshina Kannada), Surendra S Wagle of Vijayavani (Dakshina Kannada), Thimmappa Bhat of Vijayavani (Uttara Kannada) – all for the year 2012; and Sadashiva Shenoy (Dakshina Kannada), P S Chandrashekar (Udupi), Ravi Hegde of Udayavani (Uttara Kannada) and Raghavendra Bhat of Kannada Prabha (Uttarakannada) – all for the year 2013.
 
The Academy has also chosen media expert to honour a lecturer in the field of journalism for his service as part of its completion of 30 years.
 
Senior journalist and columnist H R Balram, who had worked as the Resident Editor of The Times of India, Bangalore, and The Indian Express, Bangalore, has been selected for the special award for his life-time contribution for the year 2012.
 
Incidentally, Chetan Padubidri of Udayavani has bagged the Mysore Diganta award for the best human interest article for the year 2012.

The receipients of the Abhimani award for the best articles on issues of social concern are Ugama Srinivas of Kannada Prabha and Sachidananda Kuragunda of Prajavani for the years 2012 and 2013 respectively, while the Mysore Diganta award for the year 2013 for the best human interest story has gone to Raja mannar of Ee Sanje.


Cash Prizes

The Special Awards carry a cash prize of Rs 20,000 while all other awardees will be given a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.
 
Shimoga-based district paper, Namma Naadu, and Kittura Karnataka of Bidar have been chosen for the best district paper award instituted by Andolana for the years 2012 and 2013 respectively.
 
Academy Chairman M A Ponnappa, who released the list all the award winners, said as many as 20 journalists have been chosen for their distinguished contribution for the year 2012 and another 30 for the year 2013 as the year marked the completion of 30 years for the Academy.
 
All the awards were proposed to be conferred at a function in Bangalore in the second or third week of February in Bangalore and Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Information and Infrastructure Development Minister R Roshan Baig, Transport Minister B Ramalinga Reddy and other dignitaries were likely to invited for the event.
