Mangalore, Feb 7: The identification parade of the accused in connection to the infamous Deralakatte forced sex incident was conducted through video conference on Thursday February 6. This was the first time in the entire state that video conferencing technology was used for identification parade in a criminal case.

The case relates to the alleged kidnapping of two students by a group of eight at Deralakatte in December 2013. The group allegedly forced the kidnapped students to have sex and blackmailed them after recording a video of the sexual act. The police had arrested the accused within a day.

The identification parade was held at district jail on Thursday.

District jail officer Ramesh P S said that as per court orders, all arrangements were made at the jail premises to use video conferencing technology to identify, for the first time in the state. The procedures were conducted in the presence of tahsildar, he added.

As the girl victim left the city soon after the incident, an appeal was made in the court to allow video conference to identify the accused. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) made necessary arrangements in New Delhi for the victim to identify her offenders through video.

The process took about two hours. Though eight were arrested in the case, the police produced 64 persons during the video conference.

On January 30, the male student who was allegedly kidnapped personally attended the identification parade in the jail.

These guys look well fed and no fasting.

Get them fasted well and then rigorous imprisonment for min 15 years. Make them earn for the food and accommodation that they are getting. Govt has to learn to make money out of them.

Then the message will be clear

You do this, you will have to face what these guys are facing.

Moving forward with technology is fine. But seeing and identifying the accused in person would be more thorough because the images released from the video conference are not necessarily of good clarity and hence victim could find a bit hard to pinpoint the right criminal.

Anyway, let the court deliver its final verdict and the victims get justice soon.

At least a dozen years in outside state prison without any bail will suit them right. This padde gang deserve deserves this as least and a good lesson to similar operators. There should have been 16 in identity parade to pick them easily.
