Mangalore, Feb 7: Visitors to Pilikula Nisargadhama have a lot more to look forward to, with a resort and a birds sanctuary being inaugurated on Friday, February 7 at its premises in Moodshedde, Vamanjoor here. Vishwa Vaidya Ayurvedashram, an Ayurveda centre at Vamanjoor was also inaugurated on the occasion.

R V Deshpande, minister for tourism and higher education inaugurated the Pilikula Nisargadhama Resort and Birds Paradise, while Ramanath Rai, minister for forest, environment and ecology, inaugurated the Vishwa Vaidya Ayurvedashram.

Addressing the gathering, Deshpande said, "Foreign countries are making money through tourism. They have converted tourism into their main source of income. In Karnataka, we have identified 42 beaches and four islands for tourism development and they will be given prime importance. Guides are being trained to interact with tourists, to communicate with them in their own languages. Many more steps are being taken to boost tourism in the state."

Ramanath Rai in his address said, "We are investing Rs 5 crore on planting saplings, which will benefit the future generation."

Manohar Prasad compered. Prayer service was led by Dr Shreelatha. Anur Reddy, managing director of JLR welcome the gathering.

K Manjunath, managing director of Manjushree constructions, Bangalore and Raghavendra, architect of Keerthi Consultants, Bangalore were felicitated by the ministers R V Deshpande and Ramanath Rai.

Avtar Singh, executive director of JLR proposed the vote of thanks.

MLA J R Lobo, Harish Kumar, Taluk Panchayath president, A B Ibrahim, DC, Dakshina Kannada District, S Krishnamurthy, KAS, executive director, Pilikula society and others were also present during the ceremony.

Pilikula Nisargadhama resort offers 21 twin bed accomodations comprising of 2 executive cottages, 2 suites, 6 deluxe rooms and 3 ayurveda cottages. All rooms are air conditioned.

The tariff will be Rs 3,000 per pax per night for executive cottages, Rs 2,700 per pax per night for cottages, Rs 2,500 per pax per night for suites and Rs 2,200 per pax per night for deluxe rooms. Children between 5 and 12 years will get a discount of 50% on the tariff. No extra charge will be levied for the children below five years.

Guided treks to the Gurupur river, visit to the Artisan village, visit to Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological park, Manasa amusement and water park, Panambur beach, water sports, ayurvedic rejuvenation massages will be the activities offered to the visitors.

Breakfast and lunch will be arranged on request for day visits. Breakfast costs Rs 150 per head. Lunch costs Rs 350 per head. Tea, Coffee and a welcome drink are complementary.

The resort will provide direct employment to the 40 number of people. The resort will also provide indirect employment to local farmers and traders. The resort has a capacity to cater to 15,330 number of visitors per year.

The resort has been constructed with funding from the Government of India. An amount of Rs 419.69 lac has been spent.
