Mangalore, May 23: A demonstration was held by the members of Ahinda district unit against the protesters of reservation proposal on Monday May 22 in front of the deputy commissioner's office.
The agitators said that all classes of people need reservation including financially poor Brahmins. They alleged that there were very few protesters against the reservation policy but the media has been given them unnecessary attention. Those who condemned Mandal Commission's recommendations in 1990 are behind the present protests also, they said.
Applauding the government's decision to raise the reservation for backward classes by 27 per cent in educational institutions, the protestors that the quota must be decided on the basis of population.
A memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner in which they demanded that the Central government must take strict action against those who are protesting against the reservation proposal.
Among those present were B M Hanif, Kodijal Ibrahim, K R Shriyan, Lolaksha, U T Khader, Satish Salian and Renni D' Souza.
